Check your manual door release cables please! It may be a Macca but they spend a lot more on their R&D than TVR did and these things still happen.

Carry on. wink

Does anyone know how to tighten/shorten the cables, my passenger side one comes out on about a foot of cable and is a right pain to get back in.

Pretty sure you have to pull the leather trim back by the seatbelt and adjust where the clamp is on the cable.

I always give a safety briefing to passengers & get them to try the release,

Should see the look on their faces!

I feel alot better after I replaced the fuel feed hose I must admit!

Not that I recall.
It was a last minute job for piece of mind. The main engine compartment feed hose was showing fatigue on the outer layer, (in the 'v'). I did make it complicated by running a new hose in heat resistant sleave to prolong hose life and get rid of fuel vapourisation (which worked). Was a pain feeding it under the injectors and past the alternator. I will hopefull do the other fuel hoses in time.

Having nearly setting my car on fire a few weeks ago I totally agree in checking the door releases.

My driver's side is seized, but thankfully the passenger side is fine.

Any suggestions on how to replace would be welcome (seems to have suffered from water ingress in the past).

Never pulled my own ;-) but should I? Do they not catch glass on windscreen 'edges'.

Yes they do, but that will be the least of your worries if you have to use them in anger! Practice with the window down.

Are you absolutely certain? As standard the T handle has no connection to the electrical system at all. It goes directly to the door lock, so has no means of dropping the glass. If yours does drop the glass the someone must have modified it somehow. I would be very curious as to how.

Just checked and your right it does not but for some reason the last two times I've used them I didn't have to lower the window to close the door but had to use the button to close it?

I'm not sure of the controller logic but won't the window drop as soon as the reed switch detects the door is popped ?

I have to say this is all a bit alarmist, cars only explode in movies and yes I know that fires can get big fairly quick but are you really going to sit there long enough to have the loom burn through ? I don't see any evidence that Cerbs have fires any more than other cars, listen the the traffic reports in the morning. And given that most people carry kids around in cars with child locks meaning they can't get out at all the Cerb is probably fairly safe. The emergency releases are more of an insurance against the doors not working in normal circumstances than a true emergency exit. I only know that my emergency releases work because passengers occasionally shut the door on the seat belt and that stops the normal release from working.

Good luck with taking that risk... There is a history of TVRs spontaneously catching fire. If you are unlucky enough to short the door circuit or any of the mains feeds, good luck getting out of the window aperture! wink I'm not that slim.

There is a good history of fuel lines perishing.

Fibreglass cars burn VERY quickly.

Tuscans melt their battery cables together due to corrosion in the Anderson connector.

Have a look at breakers websites and see how many TVRs have caught fire (without crash damage) and compare that to the number sold and the amount of miles driven in them. I would expect you would find it quite a regular occurrence tbh. Also another reason why a lot of people carry fire extinguishers.

A quick lube of the cables and function check takes minutes and could well save a new owners life if they aren't aware of this potential problem. smile

As I said before I nearly had a fire.

Used a rag to support one of the induction tubes and left it on the engine and forgot about it. Went for a drive to find smoke coming out of the engine bay. Lucky it was the rag smouldering away and was dealt with....but could have been a horror own goal.

Or a wooden stick to poke the rag out.
