MClass - ANything to be aware of?
Discussion
Chaps,
I am thinking of buying this...
http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
Is there anything to be aware of with these? Anything stand out as bad with the one I am going to look at?
Indicative Google research seems to imply they are quite good/reliable.
I have no particular requirment for the added complexity of a diesel. Is it a mistake not to consider them?
Would a 2006 still be relatively reliable? I am of the understanding that by 2006, Mercedes quality had improved.
The idea of this car is to be a family hack to be replaced in about 5 or so years.
Many thanks in advance!

Link is missing so not sure what you are looking at?
Presume by 2006 reference you are looking at W164 models?
2005-2011 models compared with w163 1998-2005 model.
Good cars really, I had an ML270 Inspiration and really liked it, that was back in 2003/4.
My old man had a 10 plate ML350cdi and that is great as well, enjoyed it so much I bought myself another ML270cdi on Monday off a forum member.
The 164 is a lot more luxury SUV than 4x4 compared with the 163, still more 4x4 than say an X5, but a good compromise.
Diesels will do around 22 round town, 27 average and 34 on a run I have found.
The petrols will be more like 15, 20, 26 for the same.
What sort of price point are you looking at?

Thankyou for the response mate.
About £15k.
I have decided against petrol now. Was initially concerned about owning a modern diesel (dpf etc.), but from what I can see they are pretty reliable.
I am going to look at a 2007 57 plate ML280 CDI on Monday.
I wouldn't worry about comand too much either, if you go for one without comand in it you can upgrade to the latest NTG2.5 easily, just a head unit swap and a cable set for £50. About £15k.

They go for £500 on ebay and give you a much more modern nav system with hard drive for music storage, bluetooth built in it etc.
In fact a car without bluetooth or comand and the standard Audio20 is best.
The older NTG2 comand is very outdated now and still featches a £1000 premium.
Some older cars may already be updated, you can tell as it has an SD card above the cd slot at the top.
