Don't you just love nature?! This cheeky pair of blackbirds decided to build their nest in my duck shed, up on a shelf next to the electric fence unit. Just have to make sure mother is sitting on them before locking up at night, then up at dawn to let her out. Good job I'm an early riser smile

A nice nest full there. I had robins in my kennel and it was 21 days from when I discovered the nest and eggs to them flying awayfrown I have seen them beeing fed on my fence since then though.

I saw the fight in progress; as you say, squirrels are nasty bds at times. Unfortunately our resident pair now have youngsters so imagine it was just mum being protective.

Great pics guys!

Our squirrels are way down the packing order here...quite literally....seem to get chased by just about everything; last year one of the blackbirds chased one over the house pecking it vigorously the whole time!
we'll get swifts in the roof again soonish...wish i could work out how to set up a camera to get pics

Capt Juan and his lovely wife Juaneta

Steve - Hubby of Sue, the boss!! Often sits on the deck and now rather than hiss at me just ignores me.

Buff & Beaut, Bueat is the neckiest duck I have ever met will stand at the back door and demand to be fed.

Went to get some plant feed from this shelf and found another nest with one egg in. This one was built in one of those household plant kits, you can just see the tool handles. The others had gone a couple of weeks ago so guess this maybe a different pair or would the original pair have used the same nest as before?

Blackbirds in the clematis but I found a female lying injured by my consevatory bleeding from the beak and very limp;( so if that was the female I am hoping the male feeds them. I'll not know whether the dog caught it whilst resting on the lawn or it had flown into the conservatory windowweeping
I am certainly having to keep a watchful eye on the dog now when I let her out. She seems to have a new burst of energy with all the young birds about.

I knocked up some bird boxes last year using some plywood I had lying about; even put roofing felt on the roof. Just noticed a blue tit flying out of one so thought I'd have a quick peek

I was quite pleased to see the male blackbird feeding tonight after finding a dead female this morning.

Nature can be cruel at times, but hopefully the chicks will survive. I love all our feathered friends but I have to say blackbirds are my favourite.

Talking of dead birds, just had a look in the nest box and sadly found one of the chicks dead; you can see it at the bottom of the picture. I removed it from the box; just hope I did the right thing. Edited to add that there is also an egg which didn't hatch at the bottom of the nest; should I move it or leave alone?

Leave it, remove it when you clean the box out after the brood have fledged.

Those were my thoughts but it's always good to get a second opinion, thanks.
