Are these pairs of aircraft genuinely totally separate designs?

Fiat G91 and F86D




Mitsubishi T2 and Jaguar






Saab Gripen and Bae P.110 project

Separate designs, but influenced by their counterparts to some degree or other.

Yeah, whilst the P110 looks like the Gripen, that was a Typhoon related study. Bae did have input in to Gripen but I think it was from the Farnborougj office rather than Warton. Will check my British Secret Fighters book later on.

Oh, and the Gina did grow out of the F86.

Pretty sure the T2 was coincedence. Would love to have seen a blue impulse display when they had these!

OK, having looked in 'BSP: Jet Fighters since 1950' I was out with the Farnborough comment. The design study that fed in to the Gripen was the Warton P.106B. The study led to BAe winning the contract to help design and build the first JAS39 (Page 141).

There is a lot of history behind Typhoon.

Going backwards....Typhoon-Eurofighter-EAP-ACA-P110-ECA-ECF.

The look of the P110 seems to change a lot over time.

The ECF is a 1979 model and its layout owes more to German work than it does BAe. The ECF also looks pretty cool but there are no readily available images of the model on google.

Oh, and pic you posted is of the P106B from what I can see. P110 was twin engined.
