I thought it might be OK to put up a few snaps of a local oldtimer day. On my way - walking, since 'local' was 'in my very near neighbourhood' - I bumped into this 1977 Chevy Nova 200 brake 5 litre Yank iron piece of yum. It is sitting there for quite a while now and I think it is a looker.

Let's kick off with the bikes:

A what?

Ah. The then popular 1939 Eysink Jubileum (Jub), powered by a Villiers two stroke.

The Eysink brothers (from Amersfoort, where I live now) started out manufacturing bicycles in 1903. They also produced about 400 automobiles. The company continued to build motorcycles until 1957.

The Jubileum became their best seller. In 1948 Dick Renooy won the Dutch TT on a bike based on the Jubileum (Jubilee) model. In the 30s and 40s Eijsink was a well known brand. Nice bike IMO.

70s stuff:

A familiar sight: late 70s Suzuki GS 750 8 valve four.

In the mid 70s Suzuki was struggling mainly because they had bet on the wrong horse developing a rotary engined bike. The - GS series - bikes virtually saved the company. Compared to the period Hondas they were down on power (61 brake) but they offered a better ride and they were lighter in weight. In performance they almost equalled their 1000 cc rivals.

Suzuki was quick to capitalize on its new-found success with the GS series. History lesson end!

More bikes:

Oh boyo, a 750 Sei.
From 1972 to 1978 3,200 of these Ghia designed bikes were produced and sold. This is one of them: a rare sight. In 1971 De Tomaso bought the Benelli company. The Sei was his idea to declare war on the Jap bike invasion. Which of course failed. After the 750 it took Benelli 10 years to sell 2,000 900 Sei bikes. I never saw one of these.

Imagine an unique signature exhaust note. Until 1978 the Sei was the only six pot bike. Honda then took the crown with the 1 litre CBX.

Derrived from the Honda CB500 a Sei pumped out 71 brake at 8,5K, topped at 120 mph and was one of the smoothest European tourers.

This gem is own by a local classic Ferrari garage owner.

Cars, another Six:

Gorgeous Citroen TA 15 - here a 2,9 litre straight six (1938 - 1953) - was so advanced in its days: FWD, IFS, monocoque and with a fairly modern engine economic (4 pot returns 28 mpg). Even at retirement it still featured more modernism than period rivals. Think Brit stuff . . .

Over here in NL a TA is a fairly common sight but not a Six. A peek inside makes a Rolls feel shy about the rear passenger leg room.

This 15 is used almost on a daily basis and does not need much of the owner / drivers attention: "Just the occasional drip of oil and spark plugs."

More later.

Another Citroen . . . but not as we know it:

Oddly this kit is powered by a 2CV. Mmmmh, I'd put my money in something more sensible.

More boxer twin stuff:

But with only one seat.

And it is Dzjerman.

What a beauty.

More.

Well, that's an odd looking thing? For all it's worth when it's a bout 2-pot cars I'm more into them Moggies. Here's a real piece of historic Dzjerman:

No, this is not a Karmann Ghia.

Dangerous curves.

Gorgeous details.

I think you will find that's a real one. The picture from the front looks correct.

Not according to the license plate:

VW speedster, 1285cc, first registered in 1972.

Looks very convincing though.

Mine was from a 1913/23 hybrid Rolls Royce, taken a couple of years ago.

Looking forward to your next batch!
