Haven't been to Swansea for years. I have to say it was never my favourite place. I worked there for about a year and lived in Uphill but after it had the sh*t bombed out of it during the war, the 60's corporate planners got in and made it into a bland and anonymous place. It has improved in the past 10 years...with the very nice waterfront development and a little museum but it still has a way to go.

It does have certain advantages however, you're very close to the Gower with it's lovely beaches, never too far from Cardiff which is useful and it's quiet enough for you to get some work done.

Apparently, the bill for the damage was about £2.

Actually, it's time to confess - most of the bombs came from Cardiff.

You can never be too far away from blueeyes. LOL.

I know a few people who went to Swansea Uni and really enjoyed it. It's a fairly small town centre but Cardiff is only 40 mins down the road.

Best time is in the summer where the Gower and Mumbles is nice.

I could think of a lot worse places to spend 3 years pn the pi$$!

Hi Pen, I have lived in Swansea for 15 years now, was quite a culture shock, having come from Hertfordshire, but like most places in the real world it has good and bad, some areas are worth avoiding as in most cities. If you've got any specific queries, say about where to stay / getting digs, feel free to e-mail me and I'll tell you what I know. I know most of the area pretty well (having practised here since '89) and my wife (Julie) was born and bred in Swansea (sorry if that sounds a bit veterinarian....) .

Its great, she'll love it. The Campus is surely one of the more attractive and the location, practically on the beach, is enviable. I came here 8 years ago and still haven't left. Swansea - the graveyard of ambition!

The Town is very average, but there is plenty of night life and it is on the up with serious developments taking place all around the city.

What's she studying?

It disappoints me to hear the comments of a great City. No doubt most of the negative comments stem from Cardiff residents who are envious of Swansea and the nearby attractions of beauty for which Cardiff lacks.

Swansea University situated on the beach is the envy of most Universities. There is however, an element of thuggery from a minority of locals towards students generally from the green eyed monsters. Choose the second years accomodation carefully, rents are comparitavely low compared with most University towns but it is worth paying a little extra for accomodation in select areas.

Which negative comments were those?

Swansea is the same as anywhere else. It has some nice parts and some not so nice parts.

I like Swansea, especially the Gower but i'm not envious of it. There is no need to be when its half an hour up the road.
