Rob & Molly have been encouraging me to come down and have a play with Purdey their BR fettled S
I've already got mine on the waiting list for a major project but was getting impatient and curious as to how mine would turn out.
So I had a drive down to see all four of them (Chris, Purdey, Molly & of course Rob!)

Purdey has a few modes now
The full exhaust and valve switch & 5.5k rather than ~3k rpm. Even with out Sport mode Purdey if free reving and great for quick overtakes (much more so than my S) with out too much attention from the noise wink Push a bit harder and the valve open and it really does sound fantastic

I never use mine in D or let it do its own down changes as I find the change a little to jerky if I'm not expecting it.
Purdey will do 30mph up hill in 7th, when a down change does come is is more like the DSG in my DD.
Manual gear changes are so much more responsive

Rob reckons he can get 29 mpg I've never had mine above 20mpg EVER!

The switchable suspension is more like a Sport Pack car in soft (which I liked) in hard it is like a roller skate and good for fast sweepers on good tarmac. Soft is much nicer!

This is going to make my wait harder! frown

Thank you Rob & Molly wink

Resist Resist I must resist!
Stop putting thoughts of BR upgrades in my head....
Just when I had got over ( trying) to keep up with Molly on the JLC trip, and having to listen to Purdy's wonderful noise, you have put temptation in my way again.....
Help me somebody......

Mikey thanks for your kind words. I make no apologies to the rest of you for prattling on about the vast improvement that BR have made to Purdey.

We never used to use the gearbox in D for drive, we do now because it is so improved.

Jockman you old cynic. Regarding the fuel consumption; driving from Hereford to the Channel Tunnel with a fair few motorway miles thrown in i.e. cruising at 80 -90mph she returned 26mpg. On Mikey's drive out just over 21mpg. On my last visit to BR driving at legal speeds 29.6 was recorded! To be honest I am not that bothered but without doubt I am seeing a real improvement .

Mac 355 if you are reading this MTFU! get your car booked in with BR ! If you need convincing you are most welcome to pay us a visit.

Mikey / Rob,

Is the notable change in the SS simply a clutch change or is there more to it? Is it really like DSG now? Smooth, barely perceptable changes in "D"?

Cheers!

Kris, to answer your question I would say No. Though it is vastly improved. Molly has a Polo GTI fitted with a DSG Box. The gearchanges are virtually imperceptible . On Purdey you can still tell when she changes gear in D mode. Using the paddles I still lift off the gas when changing up but that is the joy because you feel involved. On a spirited drive in the Polo the other evening I declared that good as it was I preferred the Aston's SS box. Molly agreed claiming that she rarely used the paddles . Downshifts in Purdey are a delight because the lightened flywheel allows the engine to give a mighty blip on changing. Bloody Fantastic!!

My daily is a Scirroco GT with DSG and I have to say Purdey changes gear better than that!
It is a clutch and flywheel change then a relearn to match them

Thanks Mike - so what are the costs for turning SS (1 or 2)? into a genuine proposition? PM me if you don't wish to post here. I am considering man-mathing into a roadster over the next few months and most are SS - if that can be made drive-able and nice... it would be a serious consideration.

TBH I'm not sure mine is being done as part of the engine upgrade, RobGT can tell you.

No, because here is what will happen, in order.

I'll ask the question
I'll sell my lovely coupe
I'll buy a roadster
I'll deliver car to BR
Magic will happen
I'll get home and my front door key wont work.

wink
