After boosting my cars power, general hooning around, VMax & Sporting Bears Dream rides, it was obvious that though very good, my standard brakes were not up to the job on my S4. Also, as more power will be arriving soon it became an essential upgrade.

Quick email to Doug @ MRC regarding upgrading the brakes & after a little discussion it was decided to go for the RS5 upgrade kit. The kit fits with no adaptions so is straight forward to do needing 3hrs labour max.

They were fitted last Friday, a day ahead of giving Dream Rides (http://sportingbears.co.uk/index.php/) at The Supercar Seige at Leeds Castle. Not ideal as the brakes needed to be bedded in. So a very early morning bedding in session on a quiet road I know near Guildford was called for to give the brakes some chance of getting bedded in properly. Once completed I drove over to Leatherhead to meet up with Steve (Mr Ultimate Detail)& a friend of his who was in a very nice new M3, to drive the rest of the way to the Castle.

The brakes performed well & it makes you wonder why Audi don't put such brakes on the cars in the first place!! They have got better over the last few days since the weekend & are feeling good & looking good. I can certainly recommend the upgrade. thumbup

Doug took a few before & after pictures which are also on Facebook.

Good stuff, I really like your car. Subtle colour, little wheels, goes like stink.

Time for a 2.0 TDI badge? wink

hehe Not a bad idea!! Specially as MRC badges are as rare as rocking horse do do till the new ones come through.

Thanks for your positive remark.

Love this, I have just taken a S5 (v8) in against my modestly tuned 135i.

Not a car I would normally be interested but its such a nice place to be and in fact it's going to double as our wedding car .... (Only needs to make 2 x 2 mile trips)

It has got me seriously thinking about the b8 s4.. Love a q car and looking at the Marc website some tasty upgrades can be had.

Have you more details about the mods you have done and events you have ran the car at??

20k would be my budget and would want an avant .. Seen a couple drop under 20 so should be achievable

So far I have had the following:

MRC stage 2 custom re map.
Upgraded supercharger pulley & belt.
MRC high intake air filter.
MRC silicone air intake pipe.
Bilstein PSS9 with coilovers.
H&R anti roll bars.
RS5 Brake upgrade kit.

Gives 480ps & 584Nm of torque. 0-62 3.9ish & expected 194ish mph though both to be confirmed.

To come in the next couple of weeks:

Supersprint exhaust.
MRC Dual Radiator/Pump/Reservoir Charge Cooler Upgrade (first customer car to have this upgrade)

In the region of an additional 30ps expected. Dyno after upgrades will confirm.

To come on Friday:

Change all tyres from Dunlop Sportmax to Michelin Pilot Supersports.

Only track event I have done in VMax where I managed 172mph over the distance. Other events have been Dream Rides for Charity.

I hope that answers your question.

How is the pedal length/feel with the new stoppers?

Its different. Feels a little softer & a tiny bit more travel.

Brilliant thanks.

Not want to part with it do you ha...

I am very tempted by an svante s4, love the q car.

So really it should be on almost par with a early stock GTR with £1500 stage 2 upgrade?? (Straight line) insane

I expect I will keep it for a while yet (particularly as I have spent a fair bit on it). Its just so appealing as a car & as a car that you can upgrade. Upgrading is almost addictive, particularly when you can really feel the differences & when you have an estate car with supercar performance it makes ownership very enjoyable. But as its not a supercar, it has stealth. Its an Audi A4 to most people after all!!

Yeah tbh the looks of them don't really do an awful lot for me, where the s5 looks stunning just not practical enough.

A nice set of bbs wheels or audi rota's would make it look very nice but would have to be 19" and then you compromise the ride specially on coilovers.

S4's do seem to dropping in value to a more affordable price range for me, especially as I would have to set aside at least 1500 for mods.

What 1/4 mile time should you expect? 12s...?

Also the one in the Chris Harris video racing the rs5 doesn't have the pulley upgrade and is only stage 1 I am guessing?

That's correct, the Revo map is 'just' a map and gives about 410 BHP.

The S4's subtle appearance is to most buyers a large chunk of its appeal. You either like the wife/business friendliness of it or you like the Q car appeal (or both, I suppose). An S4 is a very easy car to use and live with all year round and do everything with.

There's a lot of what made the B5 S4 so damn popular in the B8 I think.

Dr G is right. Subtlety is where the car scores. It's so subtle that I dismissed the S4 when looking for another Audi. I was really wanting an RS4 B7. You look at them & you fall in love. That stance & those wheel arches, there are no estate or saloon cars that look that good in my opinion. S5/RS5 runs a close second though.

When I drove the S4 & compared the technology against the RS4, I realised that for me the S4 was the one I wanted after all.

I assume there are no mods/maps that Audi will do/allow without voiding the warranty? (B8 S4)

TIA

Ah, Ta for that - didn't know they allowed Revo.

As for map... no idea... just interested to see what could be done without losing the cover.

Not quite laugh

I meant:

Audi "blah blah blah map blah blah blah"
You "what's a map?"

I was implying that with Revo software installed and a switch to disable the software for dealer visits it would make the map very difficult to spot.

Audi can still look at boost and airflow data but they'd really, really, really need to want to bin your warranty claim.

Chap in the S4 thread just got a new gearbox under Audi warranty despite MRC stage 2, for example.

Ah... sorry, being dim. Ta for the advice.

Did you have any wheel clearance issues?
I have the same brake kit and my winter wheels catch on the inner diameter of the caliper. Just tried 2x3mm shims to fit check clearance and still need more offset. Mine are ET43 7.5Jx18 part 8K0601025 which look identical in design. Maybe yours are ET47? 8Jx18? Do you know your wheel offset? My ET43 8.5Jx19 summers fit fine.

I fitted these front brakes to my mates s4 but he bought brakes all round. I tried fitting the rear discs but they seem to have a different offset to the original discs and the calliper carrier touches the back of the disc. Do you know wether there's an easy fix for this? The rear callipers in the rs5 kit are the same as the s4 ones with the same part number so there's no need to change them, the carrier seems slightly different but still catches on the disc.

Thanks.

Did you know if you needed spacers with the rs5 brakes and the 18 wheels
