Insurance for a 4.0 Tamora
Discussion
Hey all!
I've been looking at buying a 4.0 Tamora though have been a little concerned about insurance following the increase of the engine size. I have been told that the increase has been notified to the DVLA who will update the V5 and therefore the insurance company should just pick up the fact it's a 4.0 without increasing the premium.
I'm not sure if this is entirely the case so was hoping you guys might be able to shed some light on the situation for me...
Thanks!

Agreed. You need to insure the car through a specialist broker who actually understands these cars and the type of people who own them.
There are loads of aspects of TVRs which can/need/just are modified or updated be it adjustable dampers or engine rebuilds to larger capacities or whatever. If you try to insure it through the mainstream online insurers they'll soil themselves and inflate the premium due to fear/lack of understanding of any change in risk.
Companies like Manning UK and similar deal in these sorts of cars and the little changes owners make all the time and understand that mods and upgrades don't really influence how much respect the average TVR owner knows he needs to give the car.

Ive managed to get a quote to about a £200 change so thats a start at least… I was planning to visit the STR8SIX one this weekend but missed the boat unfortunately, looked like a solid bet, especially after chatting to them.
Im currently looking at another at Britannia Cars. The guys seem genuine and were keen to answer all my questions so will have a full inspection at the weekend and see where we end up… The car was at also photographed at Chatsworth this year which, rightly or not, gives me a little reassurance about the previous keeper.

I changed in February from Mannings to Classic Line.
Nothing wrong with Mannings, excellent service.
Problem was me - kept driving the ruddy thing, and so ran out of miles on my limited mileage policy.
Chose Classic Line because they would do unlimited mileage and all my track days (not just ATDO ones).
To the point. I insured a standard 4 litre Chimaera with them. No need for a no claims, though I think they did ask what I had on my Audi.
I then did a slight upgrade......... from 220 bhp standard 4 litre to 330 bhp V8D 5 litre......plus roll cage. They were more interested in the roll cage, but said fine, thank you, no increase in premium.
So be honest with the insurer, use te PH insurance wiki, and use a specialist.

Likewise mine is modified with non-standard stainless exhausts and Gaz Golds etc. Manning weren't concerned at all. Infact the guy on the phone said on the latter than most of these cars seem to need the originals upgraded/replaced these days.
I'm a little concerned about my milage but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I too was only asked what NCD I had on my daily drivers and whether I'd driven anything RWD with some poke before. I had to admit that whilst having a lot of RWD experience there isn't much with a Cerbera's power to weight ratio and the guy on the phone laughed and agreed.
