Hi

Myself and my step farther are building our first kit car, well at the very first step of our journey, choosing a starter kit, we were thinking of buying a basic starter kit, choosing a donor car ect, however we have a rover v8 built 1976 but was fully rebuilt and overhauled only a few years ago and is in good nick at the moment, so the question is, once fully built and registered and we take it to the MOT center will we just have a visual smoke check or will we have to worry about meeting current emission regs ?

Being so new to this we have no idea what so ever with regards to registration mot ect, we have done some research but would really benefit from some first hand experience in this field ?

regards

You have a lot of reading ahead of you so you need to start by following this link https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/individual-veh... and find the Manual covering IVA for M1 vehicles.
The car you build will have to be tested against this requirement.

Most kits use a donor vehicle but if you use your RV8 engine you may end up with a Q plate. No big deal.

Emissions for that engine will be CO <=4.5% & HC <=1200PPM which should not cause any problems.
