A friends 2008 Vauxhall Zafira Elite auto lights and wipers are not working- manually they work fine. Fuse 17 is blown and the replacement keep blowing.
Would anyone know the likely cause? And relay location? Thanks

I've had this before where an incorrect windscreen has been fitted blocking the sensor. Dosn't explain the fuse though...................................

I'll see what wiring diagrams I have.

I'm not even sure there are relays for that sort of stuff now, some stuff uses the ECU to switch instead.

If you turn the auto stuff off does the fuse still blow ? can you manually turn headlights/wipers on ok ?

Just had a look at some wiring diagrams, the diagram I have shows a feed going to the windscreen sensor from fuse 17 that is located in the rear electrical module. The sensor is connected to the underhood electrical centre. It looks like the sensor does both rain and light.

From fuse 17 in the rear module the wire going to the sensor is black.
From the sensor to the front electrical sensor is green. Up above the mirror in the roof there is a plug that connects the sensor, black 3 pin I believe. I'm not sure if you will gain access by just dropping the interior light out or if you'd need to disturb the headlining.

There are two relays, K5 is the low/high speed and K6 is the on/off. They are in the underhood electrical centre, have highlighted them below, K5 on the left, K6 on the right.

As far as I can see the relays are the same if automatically or manually switched, so as someone above suggested I think you probably want to concentrate on the sensor. Don't rule out a wiring problem though - a chafed wire grounding out is less common nowadays but still happens.

Does the fuse blow as soon as you put a new one in or only when the auto lights/wipers turn on ?

Might be worth while checking the wiring to the sensor, it might be damaged.

IIRC it's a ribbon cable on those.
