I've tried rather a few of those on the list as they're mainstays at the Colchester and Chelmsford beer festivals. I remember the Elephant School and Wibbler beers very fondly. I remember Essex Border being rather nice too.

Sorry for the wrong forum, was just browsing the lounge at the time when I thought to post.

Thanks for the suggestions. A few to get me started. Suppose to be a sensible day out, but with all the girlfriends and wives not being keen it leaves it to a lads day out, so Ill be having a lazy day the day after.

If its a beer festival where you have your own pint glass, buy halfs instead of pints, means you don't waste any if you don't really like it, and you always get a bit more than half

I can highly recommend the the Orchard Pig stuff (mildly sparkling) and the Gwynt Black Dragon (flat, very strong)

Having been a Whitstable resident, I'd say that the Whitstable Brewery beers were overrated, although the bitters might be nice. The fruit beers and their lager were pretty unpleasant.

Another vote for Black Sheep. Wentworth's Oyster Stout is also good.

On the cider side, the Rum Cask and Black Dragon are both nice but you'll know you've had them after a couple of pints.

Another vote for Broadside from me. But as someone else said, try a bit of everything (or as much as you can handle )
