X308 2002 XJR brake lines
Discussion
Now I have been told by two separate mechanics that my brake lines are very rusty and need sorting, particularly the bit that runs the length of the vehicle.
It sounds like a big job to swap them, as I am told that they are routed behind the fuel tank and other obstacles that need to be moved.
Has anyone had this done? How much time/money was it if so and what bits of the brake line needed swapping? Thanks

Put it in for a MOT. If the work really does need doing any competent MOT tester - maybe an independent one run by your local council - will fail the car and let you know exactly what needs doing and then you'll just have to get a couple of quotes and either pay whatever is needed or have some pipes made up and do the job yourself.
If not then you don't need to do anything and as a bonus you'll have learned a lot about the people who currently look after your car.

The petrol tank is in the boot (in front of the boot, behind the rear seat), why would the brake pipes go inside? Sounds like a 3rd opinion would be a good idea.
I have no idea where the lines are routed. I'll get a couple of quotes, but was hoping to hear experiences from others who had done the job, how much they paid and how many hours of labour it took.A bit of an update.. The second mechanic (my trusted independent mechanic) began to actually remove the old brake line and found that some sort of COATING on the break line was corroded - beautiful shiny pipes found underneath so no new brake line needed! Just some rust prevention measures.
The first mechanic to spot the 'rusty brake lines' was a Jag sooper-dooper qualified tech who headed up the team at a Jag dealer until starting up himself.
I hope this helps someone else - sounds like an honest and easy mistake to make at a glance.
