trek madone brakes

Hi all-well I have another small hitch I'm afraid.

I came across a very lightly used Madone 4.7 frame and forks, so bought it with the plan of building my first road bike. The chap had ridden it for about 500miles and decided it wasn't quite the right size for him. I also picked up some nice wheels, the seatpost, stem and handlebars. Then I picked up an Ultegra 6700 groupset and built it up today.

Unfortunately the brakes don't fit-the bolts are too short to go through the forks. I thought maybe they came with different bolt lengths,but now it appears that the Madone had brakes made specifically for it.

Is this the case? If so, I'll need to track some down, as the bike is just begging to he ridden .

Ah nuts - oh well, thanks for confirming that. I will just have to get on and source some then.

At least I won't need to find brake calipers for my next bike

That link is for the 7 series frame. The 4 series doesn't have the direct mount calipers.

Without removing mine, my guess is that you need a longer nut - the nut on mine doesn't look like a standard shimano part. I suggest calling a trek lbs and getting the specific nut, or take a punt on one of these

Many thanks-I'll call a trek agent next week. Thanks for the link, but I don't think they're long enough. One of the calipers has a nut that looks like that and it must be an inch long, whereas those are only 18mm.

If the 4 series frames don't have specific brakes and I can find a nut that will let me use these calipers, I'll be thrilled.

The bike looks so good-a mostly white frame, with the grey ultegra, that I can't wait to have a ride .

Make sure you haven't confused the front and rear which will often have different length bolts

Thanks-yes, I tried it with the calliper with the longer of the 2 bolts and also with the longer of the 2 nuts and it was still short. I measured to longer nut and it's 20mm end to end. They make them in 32mm too, so that should be enough to make it work.
