The best 911 you can buy is a 'new' one and an 'old' one.
A new one for everyday use and convenience (not really a '911' though), and an early one to savour the traditional noises, smells, analogue feel, and a hedge against the inevitable depreciation on the newer models.
The 911E is a good choice.

Beautiful car. Don't worry you will soon get used to driving it! Once the suspension has settled a bit get a decent geo to get the most out of it. Just got my 70s back from Chris Franklin's where, amongst other things, we dropped the car from (the very high) factory ride heights and got the all important 1 degree rake sorted. Mine was nose up before and a bit light on the front over 60!
Here is the new ride height

And a gratuitous shot from last weekend's road trip to Devon. 425 miles and ran perfectly

I bought a 911 E back in 1974, previous car was a 454 cubic inch 1972 Corvette, the Porsche was a 2.2 litre in orange and lhd. I lived in Balham then with a pregnant girlfriend in Margate.
Early one Sunday in June 1975 I received a phone call telling me that the birth was imminent ,get here quick. It was a 90 mile drive then , pre motorway and the last 26 miles was known as Thanet Way , a three lane road with the middle lane designed to enable overtaking from both directions.., lots of bends and almost deserted . This was when I discovered three wheeled cornering and do not lift off mid corner under any circumstances.
I made the ninety miles in 90 minutes in time to witness the birth, nothing took the shine off that drive, not even being told by G/f , this is all your fault you b
d !
This was my first Porsche and forever since as a brand has held the number spot .
