View on secret test done with Pirelli & Mercedes

What is your view on the following story?

It's over a row that Mercedes did a private 3 day test between the Spain & Monaco GP and Red Bull & Ferrari considering protest...

As always, Horner bleating like a bh. The FIA were aware of the test so tough st. Red Bull probably annoyed because they didn't get asked.

He should stfu!

If it was Red Bull who had done the test Horner would say it wasn't a problem. Which it isn't. Unless, of course, you are Horner &/or Red Bull.

It seems that every time Horner opens his mouth he just proves to everyone that he is a bellend.

Apparently it wasn't a secret, all the teams knew at the time, Horner is just being a knob, hoping that the stewards make an uninformed decision

The way the BBC have reported it the teams have grounds for complaints. Obviously, the facts will be established and we'll see where we get to.

Well, from what has been said in the commentary, I think the issue is using a current car.

That was the crux of it, yes. They're meant to use a car at least two years old.

That was the crux of it, yes. They're meant to use a car at least two years old.

It gets complicated though, in that Pirelli wanted to test on a current car to get some representative data.

The fact that they chose Mercedes is normal, as you would want to test with the car that was fastest over one lap at Barcelona.

The fact that it was not transparent to the other teams is the really big question, and does require an answer.

Surely it is academic, they were testing proposed next seasons tyres but in 2014 there are fundamental changes especially to engines in 2014 so in reality unlikely to benefit Mercedes. Perhaps Red Bull and Ferrari haven't noticed that Mercedes still have issues with tyre wear on regular circuits

They did get an extra 1000 KM's of running, however.

Ross Brawn said other teams have been asked in the past and said no. No doubt not wanting to put 1000kms of running on in-season race engines and gearboxes, fearing extra wear and eventual grid penalties for unnecessary changes.

Mercedes have had major tyre issues in the races so had nothing to lose by accepting Pirelli's offer.

Well, Ferrari used a 2010 car in Bahrain, apparently, so I think the issue is Merc using a 2013 car, hence it falling into the clause forbidding testing.

fairly certain they didn't use race engines for the test.

I guess if you go around slagging off Pirelli, don't be surprised if they don't come knocking on your door for help.

Monaco GP stewards are to prepare report for FIA over Merc secret tyre test. Matter could then go International Tribunal. Story soon

Thats just normal process surely ? if it can't affect this race result the Monaco stewards can't do anything ? It doesn't directly affect this race (unlike say, a team to be found cheating during this event).

FIA will just set up a hearing in Paris and it goes from there I guess.

I can only assume that the protest was lodged with the stewards, and they are simply passing it on, nothing more. What on earth the stewards in Monaco are supposed to do I don't know. I presume it is merely the channel protests go.
