Tore a small 1cm hole in one of the tyres while off roading today.

It's sitting just above the bead line of the tyre/alloy join.

Given the tyres are only 5 months old and £210 to replace I don't wait to scrap it if I can get it fixed and used as a spare.

So does anyone know of a proper, ie not kwikfit etc, place that can do such repairs?

All I ask.....is it worth yours or someone else's life? I've just replaced a tyre for similar reasons. I couldn't get one sport contact 2 so had to buy two 5s. It was an expensive experience but total piece of mind.

A.J.M. is expendable but if any harm came to Alfie, Don Paul would sneak into the hospital and the youngster would commit the legendary 3 bullet suicide. wink

Would be good to see if it is beyond repair.

I'm a bit pissed off as it's a damn expensive waste if it is.

The tyre is going to be the spare anyway, the other 4 are perfectly fine.

Bin it, it's whats between you and the road. Yes it's a pain at 200 quid, but cheap if it was to blow out.

I'd happily accept proper repair in tread area but not sidewall

Bert Stewart? I used to use him years ago, didn't know he was still around. My friend uses Cooper Brothers in Carluke for his off road tyre repairs, but I'm afraid that no reputable tyre repairer will do a sidewall repair. Best raid the piggy bank for a new one.

If it's a tyre that's to be used as a spare as part of an off road set then I'd happily have the sidewall repaired, I've done it before and had no problems, if they're a road set then I wouldn't bother, new tyre time IMO, especially in something as heavy as the D3.

You could always get some dedicated off road tyres to avoid this in future though :P.

For closure on this.

Got the car and tyre to the carluke place this morning.

He took 1 look at it and wrote it off saying the cut is over a few cords and even if repaired, it would split and work through the tyre sidewall.

So the tyre is history, now need to find a replacement one, which won't be an easy or cheap task.

Also, from doing a bit of google work, it would seem i'm not alone in finding out that while the Duratrac is a great tyre, it is very susceptible to side wall damage that can't be fixed.

So will have to watch closely what terrain i'm driving over for future off road use.
