What do you use in yours????

At a cold start you can hear the hydraulic tappets knocking hardly, after seconds it disapears slowly. should we try a engine flush additive and then change oil?? or.......

thanks,

Matthijs

I now run Valvoline Maxpower 10W/40 Semi Synthetic. Oil pressure up! consumption down!
Used to run Mobil OW/40.

Castrol RS 5W - 40.

Expensive but excellent.

No point skimping on this, it is rather important

You can get this in halfords

Matthijs, come on, you know better than this: Castrol RS 10W60 is the ONLY oil for the Griff/RV8.
If there is a tapping noise, it can be the rockers need replacing. Worse case, it's the camshaft and/or pushrods.

see you, Gerjo

I'm assumming here that mainland Europe's Castrol RS is rated differently to GB Castrol RS.

Or am I missing something :/

I use Valvoline Racing Oil, as recommended by V8 Noel. The logic is that the old Buick V8 was designed back in the days when 20/50 was the norm and modern 15/40 or 0/40 is a little thin. My oil consumption is very low.

I can only agree with Gerjo, Castrol RS 10W60 is THE oil to use for the Rover V8.

Fred

PS yes the mainland European version

hmmmm, a nice definitive answer then. I'm sure that finding the perfect oil is the motoring equivalent of finding the holy grail.....
