Escort RS Cosworth: C6 SSY Project Thread
Discussion
Hi,
I haven't really been active on here until now, so I'll copy and paste my updates from another forum I use.
I’ve owned my Escort RS Cosworth since last September, but up until now I haven’t got round to writing out my project thread, so here goes. The car is now back on the road again, but I’ll start from the beginning and update this every couple of days.
As some of you will already know, I bought Si B’s 1993 Escort RS Cosworth big turbo model. I bought it because I had always wanted a big turbo version in red, and while some of the modifications weren’t to my taste, most of the expensive changes that I would have made (the AP’s, suspension and engine upgrades) had already been done.
After a few phone calls to Si the deal was done and a friend and I flew down to Bristol where we rendezvoused with Si who drove us back to Yeovil where his Escort was stored.
After a quick look around the car I took it out for a test drive, let the engine warm up and put my foot down to let it come on boost, then nothing but misfires! We limped back to Si’s house where it was clear that the car was massively over-fueling. We were all pretty surprised and didn’t have a clue what the problem was, especially Si who had used the car only the night before with no problems. After several hours of trying to source the problem, we still drew a blank. I called the deal off and went into the house to organise a hire car to drive home which Si had offered to pay for. We were literally 5 minutes from leaving when Si’s brother found a split air hose down the back of the engine which went into the inlet manifold. Once that was fixed, a quick test drive confirmed that all was well, so the deal was back on. Before setting on our way we did a quick oil & filter change as I was worried about all the unburnt fuel that was in the oil from the misfires, and I didn’t want to take the 600 mile drive home with it.
We set off from Yeovil at 17:00 on our way back to Aberdeen. We’d been up since half 5, and by half 1 the next morning we had got as far as Glasgow, so we stopped over at my parents’ place for an overnight kip before heading north the next morning.
Here’s a few pics from my folk’s driveway:

We got back to Aberdeen the next day. After a long few days I drew the conclusion that it must have been my initiation test for Cossie ownership.

That's a Lux spec isn't it with the sunroof and opening quarters? Would look better with the standard airbag steering wheel.
Yes, that's right full lux spec. I am currently on the hunt for a standard steering wheel, but they are quite hard to come by in good condition. With it being a big turbo model, the standard steering wheel doesn't actually have an airbag.tinkertaylor said:
needs badges and some original wheels!!! almost looks like a replica atm
very cool car though!
It does actually, I thought something looked a bit "off" about it, and it does look a bit like a dodgy rep. It needs to lose the smoked lights, get some period wheels on it and get the badges back on. Not sure why'd you de-badge a Cosworth in the first place, and smoked lights are a bit 1998.very cool car though!
Nice! A Cossie will always get love from me!
I quite like the wheels, though I prefer the Superleggeras in the pic above. The Rotas make a nice change from all the unimaginative Rondell or Azevs Escort Cosworths normally wear. Money no object I'd go for period BBS centre lock touring car wheels, but that's just me
Nice spec on the engine, looks like it should see a safe 330ish bhp on standard block and cams? Any more plans for the power house?
I'll keep an eye out for you in the 'deen

Very nice. Saw you on Union Street on Saturday lunchtime and had a good stare at it.
Aha, so you'll know how it now looks - shhh! The first few posts above were just to outline what the car was like when I bought it. I'll update this thread every couple of days to detail the changes I've made to the car. Rest assured, I have already made most of the suggested changes.

lovely - looking forward to seeing what you have done with it in the 8 months.i prefer the side lights standard (makes the morettes look better)
whats the reason for the lower lights (indicators??) having half of them missing (fogs??)- cold air feed??

Thanks for the comments. The car made 379bhp on the rollers when the previous owner had it tested, which is more than enough power for the standard gearbox, so I am happy to leave the engine spec as is.I quite like the wheels, though I prefer the Superleggeras in the pic above. What do you drive so I can look out for you?

What hasn't come out well in the pics is the black grilles in place of the fog lights. They are known as RS500 / Motorsport grilles. They were fitted as standard on the motorsport Escort Cosworths supplied for rallying. They are intended to be used for cooling ducts. Personally I think they look better with the grilles in place of the fogs.i prefer the side lights standard (makes the morettes look better)
