Take the door card off, put the switch in the up position & tap the motor with something heavy. They jam sometimes. Worked for me a few years ago.

As far as I am aware electric windows don't have relays. What you are hearing is probably the window motor trying to activate. It could be the actuator mechanism that's stuck and stopping the motor from working. If banging the door while activating the switch doesn't free it, then you have to use elimination to fix it.

Take the door panel off. Unplug the motor wires from the switch inside the door. Run two wires to the motor directly from the battery and see if the window goes up and down by reversing the wires. If it does, then its the wiring to the motor, the switch or the supply to the switch that's faulty. If it just clicks but the window does not operate it's either the actuator or the motor that's faulty. Remove motor from the end of actuator and give power to the motor while separate from actuator. If motor works, actuator is faulty, if not, the motor is faulty. Replace as necessary. Actuator can sometimes be freed up by oiling and thoroughly lubricating. I hope this helps. If you have any questions or you get stuck. Ask and I,ll try to explain. I just refurbished both my windows on my wedge.

The mechanism can wear and jam at the fully lowered position. I've had this on the drives window of both my wedges.

I fixed it by limiting the fully open travel either by drilling a strategically placed hole in the quadrant and fitting a nut & bolt or bending another tooth on the quadrant's gear

I had this many years ago and it turned out that the glass had come out of one of the runners so when i activated the switch it just jammed the glass against the runners. I know of someone else who had similar thing and it was the bit that sits under the glass had rusted away so the mechanism went up and down but the glass didnt move.

Window back up, I took the door card off, ttted the motor a couple of times and it works(albeit slower than it did) I also found out why my drivers door wont lock, the plate that the 2 rods from the lock move is wedged on another piece of metal, anyone have a picture of what the lock mechanism should look like before I start fiddling with it?
The rod from the button is bendier than a very bent thing, what shape should it be?

thanks

Now that the window is working, lubricate and grease the actuator and all the runners so as they are soaked. Lubricate the window runners (the ones on either side of the glass) with a silicone based oil. Then, operate the window up and down a few times and it should free up and move faster. Also, it will help it not to jam again.

The lock also needs a lot of lubricating. You need to free up the obstruction. I don't have a picture of the lock but if you can put up a picture of your lock we may be able to spot section causing the obstruction.

I can see where it is catching but I'm not sure how things are supposed to look,
I will have another look and take some pictures at the weekend, hopefully it will be a bit drier then!

I had a go at the window mechanisms with some wd40 earlier, I need to get some silicon spray for the runners though.

Hi Mate..I will see if i have any pics but i have seen a variety of rods that have quite a big bend in the middle..Mine are straight..You can squeeze it down a bit if its too slack but dont touch it if its ok..It sounds like you have a manual push/pull lock button on the top of your door caps...Ziga

Got to love our wedges smile

My passenger window is great but the drivers side stopped working ......

When I hit the magic 70 (ahem) like in back to the future it decided it would go down then up all of its own accord and then its been fine ever since !!

No help but may be worth a try smile

The outside door handles are definitely ford, look identical to mk2 escort as do the internal door releases, but the button looks different to my escort so I wonder if it is from a granada

Yes i do have a pull button on the door capping, the rod from it is the bent one, the plate the other 2 rods from the external lock attach to seems to be wedged on a plate from another bit of the door latch, judging bybthe scratches and gouges on this plate it has been catching for a while before it jammed.

Replacing the rubber in the guides will make a difference to how your windows slide up and down. The velvet surface wears and there is then much more drag as the glass is running against rubber. Especially in the dry.
