Hi everyone. Im looking forward to attending this years Silverstone F1, but seeing as its my first ever F1 event I was hoping to find some advice please.
Me and a couple of relatives have tickets for Int Pit Straight grandstand. We will be arriving on the Thursday at Silverstone Woodlands campsite, where we have an electric hook up pitch reserved for my caravan and awning. I was hoping to find some info regarding....

Buying food at campsite for 4 days!, theres a couple of fast food bars on site, and apparently a steak house was there last year aand will be attending again, comes highly recommended by my friends.
Campsite facilities. Toilets and shower blocks (tokens for the shower) all purpose built and fairly tidy, onsite shop for some small essentials (even had ice the year before!) onsite pub and the bigtop entertainment was very good.
Getting to/from campsite/track. On the Thursday morning we found it quiet, but as the day went on the queues started building and the evenings were quite bad, but we were already there
Walking from the campsite to track was easy, you are close to the entrance near Club corner. There are campsite taxi's (tractors with trailers) taking people to and from the site at different locations around the campsite and the race track.
Queues to the track on Saturday and Sunday started early, you have to be an early bird.

I assume I can leave the campsite in the evenings and drive to the local village to do some food shopping, I have a small fridge in my caravan and a 12v coolbox for the awning. Im guessing that there are loads of food stlls around the circuit, but probably extortionately priced?
Are the tractor/trailer taxis free of charge?
Does the pub have massive queues to get served? Is the beer over priced?
Where do I buy the shower token from?
I may have to leave on the SUnday, perhaps I could leave later in the evening after the initial rush?

Driving off and on the campsite would depend on wether they have put the wet weather plan into force, no problem otherwise. Not sure on any shops outside the circuit, never needed them, I took all I needed.
The stalls in the circuit were not cheap, typical over prices as in any other event, but the food on the woodlands campsite was more reasonable. Pub prices and queues were not bad, its just a barn with a wooden bar, a few seats, and some entertainment, but lots of staff and not silly prices, I seem to remember paying about £3 for a double jack daniels and coke

2011 security seemed fine, 2012 sounded a bit bad (I didnt go) as they used a different firm for security that year. This year they are apparently going back to the old security setup. Get friendly with your neighbours on site, help each other out looking after the stuff. Unfortunatly when there are thousands of people on site, you can guarantee there will be one incident 
same goes for all campsites, but I think Woodlands is the better of them all.
Forgot to mention the campsite taxi's were free in 2011, we had wristbands on from the campsite.

Silverstone village has one shop in the centre (that I know of), Croft Stores. The queues in the pub in the village aren't too bad. The beer prices have been OK in the past. I think the majority are supping by their tents. I would recommend a trip to the pub though, as the atmosphere is good and they usually have other sports on the TV. in the past there has always been a couple of merchadise stalls in the carpark.
There's a nice pub not far from the entrance to Whittlebury but that's kinda out of reach unless you drive, I would imagine.
When the weather's been nice, we've always walked from Litchlake campsite (a bit closer than woodlands) to the village and back.
I'm trying to remember what's on the A43 - I know if you leave the circuit and head towards the M1, you've got a Little chef and a McDonalds within 5-10 minutes drive. I believe there's some kind of Spa shop nearby too, like a forecourt shop (but don't quote me on that). maybe I'm dreaming that.

You have the choice of 3 market towns within a 10 minute drive of the campsite. Buckingham ( left out of Woodlands and follow the Dadford Road), Brackley ( West on the A43) Towcester ( East on the A43). Buckingham has a large Tesco, Towcester a small and nasty one. Each has a Waitrose. So no need to buy 4 days worth of provisions at the camp site shop. Although somebody from Ferrari did once clear all the bread out of Waitrose early one Saturday 2 years back - that went down well with the locals.
Towcester is probably easiest for access from the circuit. Leaving the campsite once racing stops for the day is usually ok.
In the village - which is easily walkable and has no parking over the weekend - there is Croft Stores which is excellent. It is a village shop used to serving the residents of 800 homes so an additional 100,000 potential customers in any one day does put it under strain.
The White Horse pub in the village opens additional bars for the GP weekend. Being the only pub in the village it does get incredibly busy but copes well. As said elsewhere there are usually a couple of merchandise stalls in the car park
There are also a number of pop up take aways that open up in residents gardens in the village including a most reasonable Indian
The Fox and Hounds in Whittlebury is the pub mentioned above. Its walkable from the campsites to the eats of the track but to be honest it can't decide if it wants to be a pub that opens when one would expect a pub to be open or to serve food or not.Its been through a number of changes of ownership but will no doubt be open to cash in on the GP crowd.

Fox and Hounds - last eat there after the Classic a couple of years ago. Was very good but as said they are a bit of a law unto themseleves which their hours and if they will feed you or not.
If you have the legs for it / a push bike there are some good places in Towster, don't even think of driving there though as you'll never find a parking space!
