Harewood Hillclimb - this weekend
Discussion
Should be a good weekend at Harewood Hillclimb June 1st and 2nd - classic and vintage cars on Saturday and newer stuff on Sunday (including me in a Fiat Coupe!). Full details available at www.harewoodhill.com - come and say hello if you see me on Sunday.

Love watching the vintage cars at Harewood - many over powered, under braked and skinny tyresGuaranteed good entertainment and photo opportunities
There is also the 24000cc Napier Bentley there Saturday which looks and sounds Awesome!!!!
Well worth the £10 for a full days motorsport spectating
Cheers

Thread hi jack....
I know you should'nt buy a second hand helmet but I am looking to do a couple of hill climbs later in the year to try out a car to see if it/me is competitive at all.
So looking to obtain a helmet that is still in spec.
If anyone has one and is going on saturday could you let me know please
Thanks

You could try borrowing one, trouble is that as well as a helmet you need proper overalls and gloves now to compete - I think I spent just over £400 on my kit from Demon Tweeks, could probably have got them slightly cheaper by shopping around but it was a nice day out to North Wales!I know you should'nt buy a second hand helmet but I am looking to do a couple of hill climbs later in the year to try out a car to see if it/me is competitive at all.

Hi
Yes, got a race suit, slightly too big, the gloves are cheap enough, but a basic lid is around £110 and if I find the mini or me are not competitive then I'll not attempt further events until I find a better car.
(The mini was built for historic club rallies and therefore strong rather than rapid).
I used to hill climb back in the 90's but "retired" in 2001 (or 2).

I'm not competitive in the class I am in but it is fun. At the moment I am not at all interested in getting a different car, what I am using is what I have and the competition is to beat myself. Until classes are sorted out so there is a difference between four and two wheel drive I will remain near the bottom of the class - the positive is that I get to spend more time on the hill than the quicker cars do!
Had a few hours wandering around today, just loved the details on some of the old cars.
The Napier Bentley was a cracking bit of kit and I liked the way it looked 'well used', Patina some might say.... filthy is perhaps more acurate but all the better for it. It's runs were shrouded in Tyre smoke and the backfires echoed all around the Valley, Napier Bentley 'The Ultimate Laxitive'.

Sorry didn't go today, but here's some photos of the Vintage stuff.

Good day's sport. Random observations- andyps car sounds lovely - it's a five I assume ?Nicely driven too.
Evos- God they don't half understeeer at Quarry - and Honda S2000 very good at snap oversteer.
Top speeds - always telling that a crossflow Formula Ford will manage high 80s on its 100bhpish almost entirely down to corner exit speed.A good 911 with 300ish bhp I assume pulls the same despite being so much slower on the bend. Little Jedis and their ilk are sooo quick everywhere.
But the really gobsmacking thing is that whilst the entry had some quick machinery few exceeded 100mph; at championship meeting last month the quickest Gould I saw pulled 149mph ....
About time I had another day at the hillclimb school I think ...

Thanks Coppice - it is a five cylinder version. I was pretty pleased with my performance yesterday but have to say the track felt good with plenty of grip.
I hadn't realised how much the Evos understeered around quarry until I saw some photos which someone posted elsewhere yesterday evening and compared their steering angle to mine - I nearly ran out of tarmac towards the exit on my last run however!
You are right about the top speeds, it does take serious power and/or cornering capability to achieve 100mph up Quarry straight.

Last time I went (2012) they had changed the parking arrangements so that you had to drive through what used to be the left hand side pits bit, into the middle slope field, next to the house.
Was in a 4x4 so not a problem but I'd like to take the Tam this time.
Has it changed back to how it was?
