gas bottle exchange, fleet area ?

Putting off getting them exchanged has caught up with me :-( .....I need to swap 2 13 kg propane (bbq and patio heater ) and 2 7 kg butane ( motorhome)....any recommendations other than b&q ?

The last one I got a few months ago I picked up from their depot in Guildford but that was only because I had to go there for a CO2 cylinder anyway. I did feel a little more confident thought that I got a full one that hadn't been sitting around a garden centre for forever leaking a little all the time. I sear some don't last as long as others, so I would try and get one from somewhere that likely has a decent turnover of your size.

Thanks for the link :-)....just out of interest, anyone know what the difference is between the 2 gases ? And could u use say a butane gas bottle on a propane item ?...not that I intend to...just curious :-)

Seem to remember that ice forms on the outside of 1 of them.

butane has a higher calorific value but will stop/slow down evaporating at low temperatures so your pressure will drop below 10C, so if you want to BBQ in the cold your better off with propane, Oh and don't forget the bottle will be colder than the surrounding air due to the cooling effect of the gas evaporating inside.

If you want to switch you will need to check your appliances can use both gasses, as propane will be at a higher pressure and burn rate to compensate for not being as calorific. If your appliances are good to go you will need a new regulator to connect to the bottle, but the one bit of good news is calor will swap any of the usual domestic use bottles for any other size or gas type, so no problem walking in with a 4.5kg butane and out with a 13kg propane.

Motorhomes normally use propane due to the temperature issues described above, at least the 3 I have owned did.
