Does anyone have experience of riding bikes down, 3 of our group are thinking of riding down and wondered whats the score with getting onto the campsite on a bike we are in Expo. Do they get checked in and out like the cars? I have been told that officially they all need a camping permits each but this would cost them a mint when they are camping with the rest of the group. Any ideas from the OAB (old and bold).

yes i have on karting nord 2009 i had 1 camping permit and there where two of on a bike each .i recall we didnt have any problems getting on the site at all.we traveld super light it was one of the best lms experiances for me .

Best check with the ACO as on the camp sites I have been on they have required one camping ticket per bike and check each time you come in or out.

Jock McSporran, on here, came by bike one year, staying on Houx, he may be able to offer some sage advice if you ask nicely.

One of our lot travels to Le Mans and camps with us on MB, and he needs a camping permit to get his scoot in and out of the site (as well as his GE ticket).

They have become stricter and you will need a camping pass to get in and out even if you are sharing a tent

I am doing the same this year, 4 cars, 1 bike & 4 camping tickets.

Plan is to take bike in with ticket first, then walk out and give it to one of the car drivers. Bike wont move for the weekend and I've saved myself a fortune.

How does that work with the scanning, don't some camping areas have vehicle ticket scanning?

Once ticket is scanned you will not be able to get another car in using it sorry, unless that vehicle is scanned out

You might (ok unlikely) also have an issue if any steward walks around the site checking permits on parked vehicles during those few days. Maybe a quiet word and €10-20 proffered is the way to go to get the motorbike in!

Really. Hummmmm. My recollection is that the scanning system is usually total shambles anyway. But thanks for the headsup.

That depends on which site you are on, at the posh sites, TR/MB/houx they are very strict but at some of the others more relaxed

Agreed re MB - sometimes they write the reg number on your camping pass, but I only remember them checking that the numbers match a couple of times. If you're leaving your scoot parked up, stick it under a m/c cover if you can.

I can only speak for Houx, as I've camped there for the last 5 years, but I think this is the general rule:
They now mark the vehicle pass with the registration number when you first arrive to prevent your cunning plan working.

yep ,I can confirm ,that they are very strict with the 'in-out' scanning now , but then again I'm another Houx camper, so not sure if other campsites are the same.

Ah yes good point, this has been my experience on Karting Nord and Garage Vert for the last few years.

For Tertre Rouge in the last few years they are very strict with the scanning at the circuit entry/exit and then at the camp site they only collect the passes, not had the reg number written on the tickets yet but security gets tighter every year

Will see how it goes. We are taking a van down so can always put bike in van and drive van into campsite! I will beat the system somehow!

Emailed ACO today re motorbike and tickets they confirmed 1 per bike.
