Waterproof cover for SLR

Hello chaps, just wondered if anyone has experience of waterproof covers....I'm talking about the plastic bag type things rather than underwater housings (just for use in the rain).

There seems to be quite a few options, such as this but I'm not convinced it would be that easy to manual focus or zoom...anyone used something similar? Does it inhibit operation of the camera?

This one also looks pretty good but I imagine it would fog up pretty quickly from your hand?

I keep a couple of the optech ones in my bag just in case, they do the job but the camera is a bit fiddly to operate. You get what you pay for, if you're going to use it a lot then splash out on a think tank hydrophobia but for occasional use the otech ones are fine

I was looking at the Kata system at the late great Focus on Imaging exhibition a couple of years ago.

Looked good - but I have never got around to buying anything.

Around and about at the circuits for motorsport where recent seasons seem to have been very wet on a regular basis the supermarkerket plastic bag seems popular among the regulars it conditions are monsoon like. Otherwise, for torrential or less, a chamois leather or or possible a faux chammy seems to be favoured.

Allagedly my 1D3, with the right lenses, is meant to be quite water resistant so I just use it naked but try to protect it under a waterproof jacket as often as is practical when not actually shooting. Any non-waterproof kit tends to stay in pukka weather resistant cases (except for maybe an odd minute or two of use) in poor conditions.

What kind of conditions is this for use in?
I have a 5dmk2 and L lenses and use them in the rain all the time. The 5d isn't exactly well known for being all that weatherproof, but it copes fine with normal rain conditions and sensible use.

I have used the cheap Optech ones on several occasions and find they suffice. They pack away really small and I leave them in my bag all the time. Yet they're long enough for all lenses, I would imagine; I've used a 50-500mm with them without issue.

I found them easier to use if you cut up the sides leading up to the camera body; it's easier to get your hand in and you can then list it up to see the back screen, make menu changes etc. You can see through it but once it's wet and been crumpled up it becomes difficult.

Not had too many issues zooming in and out with one on.

They are awkward and fiddly, but do the job.

That said, I am looking for a more robust solution, at a reasonable price.
