It happens. A lot. Some lids offer a "bug net" liner, although it can hinder ventilation somewhat.

I had an earwig in mine; mild annoyance turned into a proper stinging pain. So being an avid nature lover, I flicked it into the floor and stamped on its head.

As above, it happens. Rule 5 and all that.

I had a wasp hit my helmet and fall down inside my shirt once. That hurt.

I consider myself to be a nature lover, but wasps are just a bad joke.

My son (now 4) was playing in the shallows of the sea with me aged 2. A random wasp flew at him then stung him in the eye; I had to drive flat out to hospital as I had no idea if he'd get a nasty reaction. That turned me from a mild disliker to an avid wasp splatter.

Wouldn't have been an earwig, they're harmless.

One of these, maybe?

A wasp down your jersey isn't fun believe me! Not only do you get stung but you also look like a mentalist thrashing around and ripping it off...

I had a wasp get behind the lenses of my sunglasses when I was a kid - somehow I managed to throw them on the floor and let it out before it stung me. Not fun.

A quick google image search on earwig brings up pics of the little critter that pinched my head; as I took my lid off, its pincers were still in full action.

Why were you cycling with earphones in?

My Abus helmet came with a bug mesh so I haven't had any issues like this!

When I was a youngster, I was trundling along on my KMX200 enduro, wearing a pair of jeans, when I felt a massive pain at the very top of my left thigh.

My immediate thought was the radiator cap or top hose had sprung a leak, and it was boiling hot coolant. That's what it felt like. Until I realised that the rad was on the right-hand side of the bike, so couldn't be. I was trying to look down to see, but the chinbar of my helmet prevented me from looking down far enough to see the very top of my leg.

I soon pulled up, and when I looked down, there was a MASSIVE bee clinging onto my leg, that had done a good job of stabbing it's sting into my flesh. The little bugger.

And not long after, I was riding the same bike, and stopped at a petrol station. As I bent my left arm, I felt a similar pain in my left elbow. I grabbed it and rubbed it, thinking it was something sharp in my leather jacket or something, and the pain just got worse.

Howling, I tore off my jacket, and looked at my arm, to just see a throbbing red mark. I couldn't work out what it was, until I saw a wasp crawl out from the sleeve of my jacket which was laying on the ground. It flew off, and I swear as it flew away I saw a massive grin on it's face... biggrin

Early 90's waiting for a MTB race to start and I sit on my bike unbeknown that a wasp was perched on my saddle. Little bugger stung me through my shorts right on my gooch. Painful doesn't describe it. Felt like someone had kicked me in the bawbag and didn't stop until his foot fell off.

Stung on the head two years ago after a bee went into an air vent, ever since then I have worn a cycling cap under my skid lid, also helps stop the sweat running down your face!

Plenty of bugs about tonight, I went for a quick spin around the Chilterns and seemed to take a continual battering from small flying things!

Something flew into my mouth today. I managed to spit it out, but it was different to normal if I was out running to which I've swallowed loads of bugs. This one tasted of liquorice.

Also today a fly flew into my eye, but did it in such a way that it temporarily blinded and I swerved down the road to a stop.

Not being funny, but you come across as a bit of a bell end anyway, but now you have just confirmed it in my mind. Are you seriously saying that you can compensate losing one of the two senses that keep you aware when cycling doesn't matter because you look over your shoulder a bit?

More speed required - I travel at a velocity which means anything I collide with dies instantly.

You must be peddling bloody quick. I was out on my motorbike one day, doing about 80 when a wasp hit me in the throat, climbed inside my lid and stung me on the lip. It was very much alive until I squashed the little bd, and I reckon it was quite angry too.
