So what was the strangest thing you've found in a car you'd not long bought? Its most likely to apply to a second-hand car you've bought, but it would be interesting to hear of a brand-new car with something odd in it.

For me I have two strange findings:

(1) I was giving a (new to me) Mk3 Golf GTi a mini-service and I opened the airbox to find the pre-filter section was chock full of nuts similar to peanuts. I'm not sure how they got there as they seemed too heavy to be sucked in and the convoluted piping leading to the box made that possibility even more unlikely.

(2) I was cleaning out my Lexus IS200 and in the spare wheel well there were lots of cut-out pictures of celebrities taken out of newspapers mainly, as well as a couple of Stanley knife blades that had slightly rusted to the metal. The pictures were mainly headshots, either little square pictures from the tops of articles, or cut out of a full-body shot. All female too.

So, what does the PH community have to add then? There must be many more weird and wonderful things found!

2 Lotus pens in a brand new Vx220. Obviously a bit clumsy on the line.

Then a few years later a load of glass under the seats after a service. Concerns were raised when they rung me up and asked if I could get them a spare set of keys as valet had locked the keys in it. Rung me a bit later to say not to bother, they'd managed to get in.

Lotus and Vauxhall dealers. A brilliant combination.

Your Lexus was clearly owned by a self-harming celebrity stalker. rofl Never found anything remotely interesting in any of mine, although I got a free Linkin Park album left in the VX220's CD player when I bought it. biggrin

Exactly that. If the car was parked up a lot in the same place and the intake is low mounted, they would find the hole and stash nuts there. Someone went hungry that year. biggrin

Must be, and yes, someone did go hungry as there were around three handfuls of the nuts to remove! So the little guy had been very busy before I bought it and he and was no doubt confused as to where his large and red nut storage facility had gone one day.

I've gifted a CD to the next owner of my MINI.

Perhaps we could add a thread for things we tucked away but forgot to remove, which may surprise future owners.

I was thinking of posting this topic laugh

Found a pair of wet knickers under the seat of my rover 75 when removing the rear seat. Not sure if they were wet because of a water leak or other seepage.

BMW owner left me a couple of bottles of champagne in the boot. Quality guy to deal with.

Rover mini had the boots in the boot.

My import Celica GT4 ST205 had a flare in the usual place, another flare in the boot, a map of a Japanese district, some Japanese coins, and some ladies underwear.

Do I win?

About 12 years ago my girlfriend at the time got a one year old Pug 306 from a main dealer. Had it a couple of weeks and started to notice a strange smell inside the cabin. I traced it to the back seat and removed to be faced with a vision of horror. In the void under the seat there was a huge pile of used condoms all well filled rotting away! After I had managed to keep my lunch down I put the seat base back and drove it to the dealer and asked them to find the source of the smell! They were horrified and replaced it with another car.

Beastie Boys CD in the 911 which I keep meaning to post back but keep forgetting. Probably still be in the CD holder when I sell the car again.

£200 hidden inside the first aid kit in the boot - had the car a year before I found it, can't imagine why the previous owner put it there (seems too much for filling up and discovering you'd left your wallet at home). As he had been pretty hard on price when we haggled I declined to post it back!

A four year old Tesco receipt under the driver's seat of one car. The interior was so filthy that I had to rip the once-cream carpets out and start again...

Standard on them, to warn of accidents, breakdowns etc, like the triangles you get in German cars, but much cooler.

My current car was bought from someone a bit older than me - Under the rear seats, you guessed it Werthers Original wrappers.

My friend bought a £400 3 series, welded diff, bit of fun! In the glovebox there was a crunchy porn mag and tissues, ergh. He bought it from a mate too!
