Standard brake set up
Discussion
After searching page after page ive finally given up as the search is down.
My standard brake set up on my 400 needs a refurb. I looked at WMS for there replacement kit to fit under the standard 15 inch imola's but at £500 for a complete set it, even though it seems like a good deal, is out of my price range. So now I am looking to direct replace for a standard set up,discs/pads and callipers. Could any one tell me the kit I need and where to buy please.
Regards
Gary.

If you want something cheap and effective you could go for the Granada Cosworth calipers and Sierra Cosworth discs (283mm).
I and quite a few others have this set up and it works well on the road or track, plus pads are easily available.
Make sure the calipers are circa 1991 Granada Cosworth and the discs are for the 2wd Sierra Cosworth.
They bolt onto your existing fittings and all you have to do is drill out the holes to accommodate the larger bolts. I had to insert a thin washer behind the calipers to help alignment other people didn't.
I left the standard size rear discs and the car felt much more balanced under heavy braking whereas before the rear had felt a bit twitchy. I also bought grooved discs and Redstuff pads.

Yes they will fit under 15 inch fronts. I have them fitted, great upgrade and a massive improvement, although mine were the early 240mm discs. The 887/888 calipers are becoming rarer now but do still appear on ebay from time to time. Dont forget if you go this route you will also need the carriers as well.

Carsy a great thread find, cheers. It looks like thats the route I will be taking.
Rigga, thanks for the offer, all these different measurements are getting a bit confusing. i have settled on the 283mm disc/cossie calliper 888/887 route. Just need to find out if Siliconekid has his still for sale.

I thought they only changed the later cars from a 240mm to a 260mm disc.
Bit of a grey area this one some 95on cars have the later bigger brakes front and rear
but I have been reliably informed that there is no exact changover because I know of a 98 4.0 that has got the earlier smaller brakes fitted
even upgrading to the later bigger 260mm brakes would work well, personally I found the 240mm fitted to my 4.0 wooden and lacking power when pressing on
I have the Cossy front 283mm brakes fitted & mentioned earlier
I have edited my earlier reply to say 260mm rather than 278mm

Mine had the weedy 230mm originally fitted. Crap. They went straight in the bin.
I now have the 887/888 calipers and 283mm disks and upgraded all the hoses to braided at the same time, although I still have the unvented rears, the improvement over the originals is great.
I've done a couple of TDs and they've performed faultlessly.

I fitted mine the day before a wet TD at Cadwell, so had no idea how they would work, I dropped down from the Gooseneck apprehensive about braking at the bottom and was completely surprised by how little drama there was. I'm sure there are bigger better brakes to be had but for the money this is an excellent choice.

I have the 887 888 Cosworth kit for sale, Yellow stuff pads and standard pads. 278 discs and old stock but new callipers and carriers with braided hoses.I now have the 887/888 calipers and 283mm disks and upgraded all the hoses to braided at the same time, although I still have the unvented rears, the improvement over the originals is great.

You can upgrade the rears for peanuts ,got the later Chimaera hubs from the Cosworth brakers for £40 ,fitted new bearings ,then purchased some new callipers from fleabay .I now have the 887/888 calipers and 283mm disks and upgraded all the hoses to braided at the same time, although I still have the unvented rears, the improvement over the originals is great.

Can`t remember where I got the vented discs but they are bloody fantastic.
