At least with these the divers eyes are on the roads and not looking at bushes or motorway bridges etc
They're certainly not on the rear view mirror.....I followed a car today for 2.1miles at an average of 93mph and only when lights/sirens were activated did he look in his mirror...

You weren't driving one of those newer sneeky cars were you ? The ones with really sreamlined light bars, lights in the grill, and painted some colour other than white. I've seen a fair few that from behind are plastered with every kind of day glo colour and flashing thing you can imagine yet from the front they look like almost any other car on the road, Essex seem to be the favourites for these with their Dark Blue Volvo Traffic cars, very hard to recognise in the rear view mirror.
