991 - Glass Sunroof - Anyone Seen or Spec'd One?
Discussion
Just looking at these pics of the next Turbo -

Think the sunroof gives it a very different look. Not normally a fan of sunroofs on 911s - but what's this one like in practice?

I know someone with glass roof. Was very hard to find a car in the opc network that had one specced as they stopped delivery on the roofs for a while due to issues (believe they were rattling). Car is black / black so roof hardly sticks out, but does give more light inside which is nice. You can close the blind with push of button. I personally went for regular sunroof, as i think the galss one is very dependent on exterior car colour. Have to say it does combine well on the white turbo.
Iirc glass about 700 quid more to spec over regular roof.

OPC had a glass sunroof on their Aqua Blue C2S demo and it looks really smart from both inside and out.
Had a steel one on my old 996 X50 Turbo and rarely used it but would definitely spec one of these glass ones.
Looks good from outside and makes the interior so much lighter and brighter. Well worth the extra money IMHO

I've had experience of large glass roofs in BMW, jag Xmas, and a few others, and they all start to rattle after a while, and drive you nuts. They look great, and give a great airyness to the cabin, but they will rattle.
The ones I've had could be adjusted to stop rattle at whatever temperature they were adjusted at, but when the temperature changed, rattles were back.
I'm convinced it was differential expansion between the glass and the steel body, as I've never had an issue with steel roofs.

I've never really liked sunroofs on 911s. In the past, they have reduced headroom, added weight in the wrong place, tended to rattle, spoilt the clean roofline, and generally didn't work (more turbulence than fresh air).
However, must confess that does look good, and can see it being popular on the 991 models.
But, does it really work? How much weight does it add? And, presumably, it is now rattle free?

I've got a glass roof on a 991 and absolutely love it. Makes the whole cabin lighter. Mike a black 991, so you don't notice the contrast on the outside, but I do like the look on white and red cars.
It did 'rattle' for the first thousand miles quite badly, but now it's fine. Problem fixed itself. There is a fix for early cars I believe if it persists.

Looks like you lose the roof rack fixing points by speccing this?
That's a bugger - how would one carry his ladders?

I can't decide whether I like this or not, but I guess more choice is a good thing.
It certainly makes it look targa-esque.
Perhaps not as neat though as the two panels of a targa. The three pan else would have worked better if they lined up with the B pillar perhaps. It certainly makes it look targa-esque.

I have a 2103 C4S (produced in March 2013) with a glass sunroof. I noticed the rattle within 1 day of picking up the car. Took it back to OPC and of coz it refused to rattle in front of the mechanic on the road test. They also said they've never heard of anyone complaining about ANY noise in the 991, let alone a rattling sunroof. However the rattle is loud enough that I can record it with my iPhone while driving at 30mph.
So the rattle is definitely NOT fixed.
Did they really stop supply of the glass roof for a while due to rattle? If so they shouldn't be claiming that they've never heard of this problem!

Yes they did. It was withdrawn from the configurator about October/November last year, then put back on after a few weeks, January maybe. The OPC claimed to know nothing about it, as they usually do. They did offer to swop the roof, but didn't seem to know if that would fix it, so I decided to live with it. Eventually it cured itself - after 3000 miles. So the rattle is definitely NOT fixed.
