Those clever guys making all the sealants in Asia have been busy again, always trying to improve what we already thought was awesome stuff.

There will be a couple of new coatings coming out that boast anything from 3-10 years protection, however, I very much doubt they will last more than 3. Essentially, there are a couple of different options that companies are going for:

  • 9h coatings. These are still being tested, but they are being touted as being incredibly hard wearing and scratch proof. The number relates to how hard the coating is. Most things out at the min are about a 5.
  • then we have a glass coat with titanium oxide in it.
There are other coatings too, but some have to be applied with a spray gun.

The trouble with all advances in this area, nothing is cheap and likely to be just over the cost of 22ple. However, I will do some testing when I get hold of some and do what I can to ensure they are no more that the extra people are paying for 22ple now.

Watch this space.

Chatting with V8.........sorry, V12Woollie recently, he was saying that a company fitting stone chip protection film had a real job getting a sealent coating off. Just something to bear in mind I guess, as these products get better / harder.

That's why I'm applying the sealant to his car after the film has been fitted.

It wasn't getting it off, it was applying film on top of glass coat. The surface tension is reduced to such a degree that it is very difficult to get the film to stick.

Hence why the film is being applied after Francis has prepared the paintwork and then the wax and glass coat are being applied.

What Tony said. Get Francis to correct the paintwork and do his enhancement detail. Then have the shield fitted and then have Francis wax the shield and apply the PLE22 to the other areas.

At least that is what I am doing. You definitely items don't want shield applied over swirl marks as you'll have to live with them forever.

I have been told by the technical director and Tom the MD that no cutting is done on the car. I shall ask again when I drop the car off but that is what I have been assured. The film templates are cut using a computer and a machine.

Not got a date yet but hopefully end of July. Will call the dealer tomorrow and press for an early delivery. How are you fixed to do it at BR while the car is there for suspension mods? Mike seemed to suggest that he could arrange it all including the Ventureshield . Is there a time for the paint to harden before you work on it? I plan for BR to collect it straight from the dealer as soon as it's PDI'd.
