This weekend sees powerboat racing come back to London at last.

http://www.ventureoffshorecup.com/live_race_centre...

The Tower bridge start is a false start as they won't let us race through the barrier and the start proper will be across the end of Southend Pier.

There is room for you to bring a boat along into Wood Wharf if you want and you can then experience the run with the fleet down to Southend for the massed start. You'd need to be capable of 30 knots to be able see both London and Southend starts, just drop me a PM if interested.

This one is a prologue race to check everything works before the big one next year - London to Monte Carlo, which will include a fleet of superyacts taking part.

So come on the water, come down to Wood Wharf pits or see it from any of the locations listed in the above link. A complimentary G&T aboard to anyone mentioning Pistonheads!

And not damn Slimline tonic either!

In fact why not make it the 'G&T Cup' and skip the boats...?

Well the guys are battling some rough seas and 4 boats are running neck and neck to Guernsey at the moment.

"Rough as old balls" was one comment from a Crewmember.

The FB page is worth following.

The poor old Detroits were struggling to keep up at the start.

A great day out on the water. The race guys had a hell of a job getting to Guernsey. I have to say, in a nice way, the Yanks are going to learn how to navigate and not just follow people until the final sprint. They could have done much better.

We had a local boat race afterwards, those Bat Boats really are very quick. Big Block Chevy V8s in a 24 footer does make for some good fun. We had one little incident where a Cougar Cat got T-Boned on the first lap, otherwise a good weekend.

Thanks Chaps.

Fish although they are running under an American flag Ole is very much Norwegian.

They've had very little time in the boat, the first real dip being when they tried to come round on Wednesday from Southhampton and had to pull out in Eastbourne. On the first leg at least their GPS just kept knocking out as they were using an American gps with a European Card and they spent their whole time rebooting to get a fix. They also had the problem of using a radio set that did not carry 37 as most don't nowadays and are communincating through a pair of handhelds.

Brand new boat built by an absolute icon of powerboat racing. Give them boat time and it will be sorted.

Shame we didn't have Microlink at the start, we could have seen some serious three way contention albeit the two Scorpions were there all the way yesterday. But Cinzano will take the race to them with their experience.

I have visions of Fabio Buzzi kicking himself not to have entered a contender.

Following the success of the Venture Cup I thought it may be good to share some of the footage of the event.

The Chinese boat in front is a bit slow.... smile

I have made the other photos public so have a look at the event. (apologies in advance for any poor footage)

hehe Didn't realise I'd built up such a lead, perhaps I should have gone all the way.
