Squeal from clutch. 1st and reverse
Discussion
Hi
I'm guessing the clutch is on its way out. On start up there is a slight squeal but on pushing the clutch pedal very very lightly the squeal disappears. Also getting into 1st is a issue first thing and reverse always crunches if not going into 5th first. Still under warranty though...
Have I answered my own question??

There is no synchro on reverse so going into 5th before selecting reverse is normal.
The clutch release bearing is a bearing that sits on the gearbox input shaft and its job is to push the clutch off the gearbox when you press the pedal so the engine is not driving the gearbox. When you press the clutch in it puts tension on the bearing and takes up the slack so this might be why it goes silent.
Edit: Just to add that if your clutch is on the way out this usually shows up as difficulty in selecting 1st at a standstill and the car can creep forward in gear with the clutch in.

Hi Neil
have a look underneath the Car into the Maintenance-Window of the Gearbox , there you will see the Clutch , Plates etc ...
have a look to the Springs between the Plates and Stuff , these looks like trapezoidal ...
maybe these are to weak or not in correct order on the Plates ....
if you are a Talent One , you can Fix this with a Screwdriver etc.
which bring the pressure springs again in this position where it was originally.
Yes ,a very good English !
On the other Hand check Master and Slave Cylinder .... leaks etc.
Make an Oil-change DOT 4 and bleed the lines , correctly ...the BleedValve is under the AirBox.
Mostly the Oil is pretty OLD!
hope these helps a little

When my clutch went the first sign was different feel to clutch pedal. I was driving through the Alps at the time and from noticing that morning setting off it was still pretty much fine, maybe a little more notchy when changing gear for the next 100 or so mile (spirited) drive that morning. It was only after stopping for fuel that on pulling out of the station that I had real problems getting into gear. Managed to nurse it for a few more miles with a bit of rev matching until it died when stopping for roadworks. On diagnosis, several of clutch fingers had sheared. At no time did I get any slip etc.
Moral of the story, it can go quite quickly without much warning so I'd get it checked unless you want to end up waiting for recovery at the roadside!

Similar symptoms to mine, noticed a slight squeak from the clutch which disappeared with a light depression of the pedal. Ran like that and eventually it became difficult to select or get out of gear with any loading through the box. Bit the bullet and had Str8six swap the complete clutch out earlier this year with an up coming track day and Euro tour, and the release bearing was seized solid
