Like most others on here, I've got my tracker paired to my Iphone. Unfortunately, my Iphone recently went for a quick swim (thereby putting it out of action).

No worries, I thought, I can use my remaining tracker tag as a back-up. Unfortunately not. The batteries are flat. Grrrrr.

So I've got a couple of options. Either a) pay £70 to AM for another tag. (Erm, no thanks). Or b) follow peterr96's very straight forward instructions for changing the batteries.

Or c) find an old Nokia 'phone in the back of a drawer and get Eurowatch to pair that to my car. Ta-da - I now have an alternative back-up to my Iphone which, more importantly, has a rechargeable battery. No more faffing with the silly AM tags for me. biggrin

(Apologies if this option has already been covered in the past or if I am just stating the bleeding obvious).

what happens if someone needs to take your car (servicing etc) - can they still use a tracker fob, because you obviously wouldn't want to hand someone your phone for a few days!?

You're supposed to tell Eurowatch the car is going to be with the dealer. I always forget, so I get the text message requiring my Tracker PIN.

Call them up stick it in service mode.
They still monitor it and will call you if they think anything untoward is going on.
When it is done call them back and put it back to normal.

I always forget to call them to put it in service mode (eventually they call you), and generally forget to get them to take it out as well.

It seems like they put it back in normal mode after a week or so if you don't ask them, but probably best not to rely on that.

You can also put an "ignore duration" on. In other words, ignore any calls between now and 5pm. It then reverts to normal without any further intervention.

Ref using an old phone. It's a reasonable plan. I presume it needs a sim card to work properly so make sure that you've cleared any personal data out of it before you go handing that over.

The old Nokia (a 6300!) now takes the place of the AM tags so I can leave that with the car. (It doesn't have a sim card in it anyway).

My (new) iPhone is still my primary 'tag'.

So, being a bit dim, can I get this right, please?
I could use an old Nokia phone without a sim card in place of the AM tag, providing I keep the phone charged?

Absolutely. This is exactly what I am now doing. I just turn the phone off when I don't need it (to conserve the battery, obviously) and on top of everything else, my 'tag' is now effectively protected by a PIN code.
