993 Darren Allick Cars - Yorkshire - Help Please

Im trying to help a friend living in Austria who is looking for a LHD 993 in good conditions and he has send me this link:

I don't know the car or the dealer but that driver's seat, floormat and door surround say, to me, a lot more than 31000 miles and/or a very sloppy owner.

I sold mine with nearly 90000 on the clock and it looked like 5000 miles inside. That one doesn't.

Check out this 993 with only 50000km. I sat in it a week ago and it really is like new.

Wasn't for me as not the Carrera S but had a little nose at it anyway.
Can't speak highly of the guys at Williams Crawford, have bought 5 x 911 from them in last 12 months for my collection and all are corkers with no issues..

i wouldn't agree, not from the pictures on the advert anyway. the darker colours do crease & show wear with age especially if never treated & that doesn't have a massive amount showing. certainly nothing that couldn't be sorted for less than £100.

other little things like the front luggage bay pouch still remaining square point to light use.

i hasten to add that pictures are just pictures & a proper inspection is needed but on the surface i don't think it shows any more wear than might be expected.

I would agree with that. That seat looks quite 'tight' from the picures.

Agreed seats don't look too bad. But I would query the discolouring on the AC compressor - looks like the dye they put into AC systems to check for leaks,though I've never seen it coming from a compressor.....questions to be asked I'd suggest.

Sometimes you can get 'blowback' from the AC charging pipes when you disconnect so it can leave some dye around the compressor.

The engine is in a right state and needs a good clean up. Mats not original so may have worn badly. WTF is that gearknob all about?

Polar Silver is a great colour but of all the interiors (excluding suicide Savannah) blue is just not right, especially when the dash and wheel are the same.

Like most 911s from the mid 80s to late 90s there were some desperate interiors exterior combos

Hugely helpful comments as always. Thank you. I will direct my friend towards this thread and he will pick up from here. The 993 LHD from Crawfords looks quite nice.

Agree on the state of the engine. For anything more than 30k it should be impeccable - and it is not.

Got to say I disagree that polar/blue is unpleasant - it wasn't my favourite interior choice, but I've come to really like it 5 years in. The darker colours are great as they don't show wear & tear as much, marble's my favourite but I've never seen even low mileage ones that don't look 'shabby', and believe me I've seen a LOT of 993's!

Don't discount blue IMO, but equally if there's one thing I've learnt it's that you can't be too picky when looking for a 993, buy on condition, condition, condition.

And I'd agree, that engine bay's too dirty for the mileage.

That looks like it might be a US spec car? It has black bumper overiders between the front lights.

There are a lot of differences on US cars, so it's worth researching them.

I disagree.

You are forgetting something rather important, AGE.

The car has been used, even if far less than one would expect, but it is also certainly old, so corrosion, seal perishing, discolouration, etc, will be practically the same as a car of similar age that may have done 5 times the mileage and more.

Low mileage is only relevant in terms of wear of mechanical components.

A 100,000 miler that is only 4 years old will undoubtedly appear newer under the bonnet than this 18 year old car.

EDIT: Whoops, I gather you may have been referring to the price rather than the engine appearance in relation to the mileage.

No side repeater so almost certainly US spec.

I've seen this car and it is very nice and they have had it a lonnnng time.

Get an independent check, for sure, as my experience with them was not pleasant, though claimed as not their fault, they did give me some money back, to be fair.

I would be very interested in the results of a proper inspection of this car. As I'm currently looking for a LHD Porsche 911, I'm really surprised how long this car is on offer. It is a US version as it has the additional rubber in the front (no-one would add these voluntarily). The picture where you can see the back is at least poorly taken (compare the gaps on the left side with the gaps on the right side ... quite a difference). The waer of the driver seat ... well, someone got in and out quite freqently during this 31k miles and was stuck in trafic jam for most of the time to make them look like this.

It's more for curiosity reasons ... anyone out there who knows the full story behind this car?
