New Member - Deposit just paid on RS Clio 197
Discussion
Hi everyone!!
Lots of lurking here over the past few years, finally put a deposit on a car worthy of a pistonheads post so I thought I'd share
Bit of car history first -
Bought a 306 5dr 1.4 (Barry) as a first car while I was still learning at 17 and it survived for another 6 months after (Although a bump into the back of an old lady who stopped quicker than I could mid junction-exit because she realised she FORGOT HER HANDBAG meant he was not so handsome by the end and got sent to the scrap heap)
Here he is with his successor

The Megane Mk2 3dr 1.6 Dynamique (Remy) was next and as an 18 year old it was definitely fast enough and had plenty of grip.

Sadly, after just two years of ownership, some chav with his hood up decided to pull out without looking in his fastcar-stickered Polo and this happened
Due to some pretty severe NSF suspension damage he was written off.

He was replaced by a Clio Mk3 3dr 1.4 Dynamique S (Emile). I really wanted a Renaultsport at this point but decided to wait until I could afford the exact one I wanted. Because of the insurance claims going through, insurance would have been pretty horrendous!! I am Currently still driving about in this but getting rid ASAP. Not a bad car by any means, plenty of revs and just enough slip to give friends a scare round the right fast roundabout!

Finally this came up for sale I had another year's NCB and I was another year older so I put a deposit down. It is an Albi Blue Full Fat RS 197 (Cup pack added with Recaros and I'm pretty sure it has every other conceivable option) it's got 32K on the clock and a miltek Cat-back so it makes a rather nice noise!

I know from hanging around here a while, that many of you would have spent the money I am about to on far more power to the rear wheels and I'm sure in the future that's the direction I will go, but for now, handling like a go kart and a nice safe car are good enough for me!
I will post more pictures once it is in my hands and there are a couple of minor things already in the post to be added! Still needs a silly French name too, any suggestions welcome.

Looks ace, Cup and Recaros are great options.
Welcome to PH, don't worry about any trolls you see on here, there's one nutter who'll probably make himself known in here shortly....
I've seen quite a few anti-Renault posts around here. I understand the risks of owning a french car, I enjoy starting a journey and knowing theres a risk something might break, adds to the drama!Welcome to PH, don't worry about any trolls you see on here, there's one nutter who'll probably make himself known in here shortly....
ETA: One of those times, the 306's two top engine mount bolts all snapped simultaneously one mile away from home.. driving with only one mount and the drive shafts connecting the engin to the rest of the car is a real limp!!!

Have had several Clios, 106, 206, 306, 106, 205, they're brilliant cars. Iffy electricals sometimes, but a lot cheaper and easier to sort than the rust I've suffered on German cars. Mechanicals are always solid and that's what counts for me.
Want another as a daily driver really.
