Silverstone GP practice advice

I posted a thread on here a while ago about the Silverstone GP, and after many helpful bits of advice, I've chosen to just go for the Practice sessions. Mainly because the vast majority of people said you go for the experience rather than to see the racing, and I just wanted to see, hear and feel the N/A v8s before they go. Oh and avoid crowds and ques.
Any advice with regards to parking, time of getting there, best places to view?

I normally get there for 7:30-8:00 never had a que problem with that. Although I didn't go last year when it was really bad due to weather. Maggots/Beckett is a great stand to watch from as is Village and Club. Practice tends to be the better day for photos too in my opinion as they all do installation laps and slower runs early on. Take your own food too as with all of these events it's chuffing expensive. Enjoy !

Friday is never that busy so you will not struggle with parking or queuing. Have a good walk round and make your own mind up about viewing. Take a radio and make sure you can see one of the big T.V's. Also take your own food and some warm clothing if the forecast isn't good. Any advice with regards to parking, time of getting there, best places to view?

I would aim for 8am, it will be a drive straight in at that time. Tends to get busier 11ish.
Bring a radio to tune into Radio Silverstone and position yourself for one of the big screens. Bring confortable footwear. You will walk.... a lot!
And hope it don't rain... otherwise you'll see no F1 cars....

I've suggested a Friday ticket to Mrs Chev for her birthday. We're busy the rest of the weekend unfortunately. It's very, very expensive just for a practice day but it'd be nice to enjoy roving grandstand tickets and see F1 cars from a few different spots at Silverstone. Shame the historic race has been dropped from the bill too...

This! And always take warm clothing as it can get drafty as its very open. Also no shade so sunscreen is also good.If your prepared like you seem to be then it'll be a nice day.

Friday last year was unbelievably busy with people stuck in traffic coming off the A43. There wasn't much running due to the rain. Plan to get in early ie do not leave it until mid morning. I met people last year who had pulled off the A 43 at 10am and were still not in the circuit at 4 pm. Having said that ticket sales are way down year on year. If Friday is the only day you're doing don't risk it and aim to be in by 10 . Tune into radio Silverstone as others have said.

Yes but you can't get into the track until friday, the paella tent behind the old start line was the best last year.Best corner's in my opinion are club grandstand or hanger straight/stowe.
You get them flat out down hanger straight then hard braking for stowe corner.

Here's what I will be doing on Friday (as I have done every Friday for the past 8 years (bar last year when we were short on numbers..)...walk round circuit facing direction of traffic in FP1, taking advantage of free admission into all uncovered and most of the covered stands. On the way visit the 'unofficial' memorabilia stalls in the campsite the other side of the footbridge over the Dadford Road to see what bargains they have (race to the finish always have some nice bits of well priced F1 cars to buy). Hang around the back of the pits celeb spotting.
For FP2, find a decent seat in one of the Luffield stands to watch the cars and try to predict who will be quick on Saturday and Sunday.
Now I am fortunate as I get in for free, but aside from a test day, Fridays are the cheapest way of greeting to see the most track time of an F1 car. They aren't too crowded and I said, most stands are free.

She doesn't think 3 hours of viewing F1 cars from anywhere on the circuit for 60 quid is worth it? Fair enough, personally it's the best value day, unless you've never seen an F1 race then I'd steer well clear of Saturday and Sunday.jurbie said:
