wondering how good is this thing??

Looks like a standard dizzy to me, albeit nice and shiny! I doubt that the rotor arm will make that much difference to performance, although its not a bad price for a replacement dizzy. Mallory or those made by 123Ignition look better.hi which one should i buy if i want more power??tks

No idea TBH. I think it all depends how you can tune them and how far they can be advanced etc. I see 123Ignition http://www.123ignition.nl/id/50.html have software you can download and facilitate some degree of tuning.
I'm sure somebody here, such as Blitz, Phazed, Chimp On Gas etc will be able to give you some better advice...
Many advocate moving to a new ECU for improved performance. However Blitz has just developed a little gadget to allow you to map the fuelling on 14cux, so together with the Aldon Amytheist http://www.aldonamethyst.co.uk it will allow you to control both ignition and fuelling. Otherwise, its Megasquirt, Canems or Emerald for distributorless ECUs.

Does this mean the £400 "Tornado" chip is a thing of the past I'm sure somebody here, such as Blitz, Phazed, Chimp On Gas etc will be able to give you some better advice...

Looks like it, along with a £500+ 14cux remap. Bosch AFM, piggyback device now allows you to control map the fuelling. Clever chap that Blitz!!!

AAhh, decisions! I was just about to pull the trigger on this - http://www.actproducts.co.uk/shop/ik004-tornado-4-...
Of course if the Tornado is now "reduntant", and a cheaper/maybe better alternative, buying that kit now is a mistake.

well DAZ as always u are right???cause the ECU is on my list to do???are u happy with ur ECU??
All the ECU`s are good ,some better than others ! I have a few teething problems bit it still does the quarter mile in less than 12.5 seconds ..Watch the video ,it starts half way through ..Mine is the grey one .

The tornado chip doesn't give more power, just runs better, lees shunting, over fuelling, erratic idle etc. So i was led to believe. I have the tornado induction kit on mine ( prev owner ) chip, trumpets, smooth elbow and act induction kit. No idea what increase as done before i bought it.

What is a Tornado induction kit ?Ignition systems:
Accuspark Stealth- £70-100. A very basic 2d electronic unit with no vac' control. Runs with stock dizzy with weights disabled. Race use only due to lack of Vac'
Aldion Amethist -£200
Proper 3D mapping with vac control. Runs of Stock Dizzy with wieghts diabled. Nice low cost option with stock ignition coil and trigger.
123. Fully mappable distributor £500. Keeps a single coil and is plug replaceable for the stock Lucas Dizzy, is well made but expensive for what it is.
Magajolt £450. Electronic half a megasquirt ECU for ignition only. Uses Ford coil packs and wasted spark system. Needs the crank pully modifying to fit a trigger wheel, and bulky coil packs and EDIS units mounted in the engine bay. Very accurate fully mappable ignition timing and good spark voltages, but Ive seen issues with it along side the 14CUX. (now overcome- well frigged anyway).
Other distributors- Mallory unilite- Powersparks etc. Just the same system as the stock Lucas, with mechanical timing. Fine if you dont want to alter the advance curve and the engine is stock- although the mallory has some physical adjustments. Fitting one wont liberate extra power unless the origional system is knackered and the timing is out or scattering due to wear.
MSD (multiple spark discharge)£350- back to the 1980's with a capacitive discharge system that provided very high HT voltages and multiple spark. Still uses the stock dizzy for the trigger and timing. Why one would fit one I dont know unless you where running Nitro or very high compression ratios where higher spark energies may be needed, as it just errodes the spark plugs and makes your wallet a lot lighter.

now thats what i call a reply!!tks a lot for ur help!!so i guess next stage ECU!!
