I heard about a very interesting compound today:

http://pipeline.corante.com/archives/2010/02/23/th...

Reacts at 90deg. K with an energy of 433Kcal/mol! It would be fun to watch I suppose... from about 5 miles away!

My pedantic nature can't let this pass, K (Kelvin) is an absolute and is not refereed to in degrees. Interesting compound though.

Interesting point. But you could equally well say '90F' or '90C' and skip the 'degree' bit, no?

Not quite, the unit for them is "degrees Celsius" or "degrees Fahrenheit" whereas the unit for Kelvins is the Kelvin.

And I thought my old chemistry teacher was hardcore, having spent his postgrad days playing with Ni(CO)4 - a pleasant little compound by comparison.

the volatile metal carbonyls are something I really do not want to work with, i have to say i'd rather work with explosive stuff than insiduously toxic materials.

the main risk in the work I do is smelly compounds, but at least you always get a couple of seats to yourself on the bus/train.
