Hello, has anyone studied this? If so, how long did it take? I purchased the books, doesn't look like too much given things I've done in the past but just wondered if any of you chaps have any experience of it. Thanks in advance.

You do it in two parts. First part is three days and second part is two. Most people do it in one solid week. Doesn't make you a good project manager though.

Worth doing for CV filtering. Most people that ask for it don't use it, or don't use it properly.

My boss has done it, no offence to my boss but his not the smartest knife in the draw so I don't think its that hard. Was just thinking of reading the book and doing it myself, I should have been more clear with my original post with regards to self study required. I was thinking, of at least doing the first one by myself, and paying for the exam fee. Doable?

I've done it as a one week crash course through work. Yes it teaches some stuff but unless your specifically on a Prince2 project, it'll be next to useless as it's difficult to exercise without others who are in the know.

Definitely helps your CV though. I did the online pre-learning with QA Learning. Really easy to do and teaches quite alot in a short space. They also have an app (which doesn't need a login wink)

In terms of work outside the course it's a couple of hours work each night after the course to prepare for the two exams. The practitioner exam is more difficult than the foundation one.

I didn't read the book, didn't go to the Friday morning session, threw book in the bin at train station in Leeds and still passed both...

It's common sense wrapped up with loads of jargon, acronyms and general twayttyness.....

Do it for the CV but it ain't hard

Agreed. I don't think it's worth it just for the CV though

I am doing it to boost the CV, its one of those tick the box things you need to have, not sure it makes anyone good at PM though.

Exactly, a bizarre mixture of common sense and extreme pedantry.

Apparently if your warehouse is liable to burst into flames at any moment that isn't an issue, it's a risk. It becomes an issue when it actually does burst into flames.

I'm actually doing the course at the moment.

It is very pedantic-that is the most diplomatic thing I can say about it...

I am currently doing it also. Have already done CIMA and I am a business manager. Done some project work also..

Reckon it would do something to fill the time in and help add to the arsenal when I decide to go contracting..

What's the best way to study for Prince2, books? online course?

I've seen some deals on Groupon etc, not sure if it's any good.

Advice appreciated.

In project management terms (not just P2) that is correct.

I've lost count of the number of PMs I've interviewed who cannot tell me the different between a risk and an issue.

OP - if you want to get into project management, it's worthwhile to have. Make sure the course is properly accredited - plenty of shysters out there. (I've known people claim to sit the exams, get a certificate and them not actually be APM accredited!)

Make sure the course includes materials, as the book was about £40 last time I looked.

As someone else said, it does not make you a good project manager. Some people may dismiss it as common sense and terms, but I've made a good living out of clearing up other people's failed projects...

What do you actually do? Is it worth the expense? Would an understanding of P2 be good enough (e.g. would just the Foundation exam suffice?)

That's the book you need to pass the course. I've just passed the Foundation part today which was a 75 question multiple guess exam to be completed in 60 minutes (I finished comfortably in 45). However, I am doing it with a very good provider and am covering other stuff as well so I can understand the content and pass the exam rather than just pass the exam (if that makes sense).

Thanks, which provider are you using?

I'd rather not say at the moment but will quite happily tell you in a couple of weeks so I don't get pinged by work!

Any good provider should give you that book as part of your course fee a few weeks before the date you attend.
