Does having your service completed by a independent invalidate your porsche warranty. I have been quoted 610 plus an extra 350 for brake fluid and spark plugs for my 987 boxster s . Whilst a good local independent will do the same and use the same porsche parts for 450 all in. Can the opc invalidate any subsequent warranty claim just because it wasn't done at a dealership...?

didn't we have this debate the other day and come up with contradictory answers?

Have you got your warranty book OP? Tell us what it says on the subject.

Doesn't this depend on whether it's the manufacturer's warranty on a new car or whether it is the manufacturer's extended warranty, where they can make up whatever rules they like?

It's a Porsche extended warranty. The car has always been serviced at a OPC before .. Why does that matter?

Because the new car warranty is a porsche warranty and you're protected by block exemption or some such and the used/extended warranty is an insurance product (dont know the underwriter but it's not porsche) so they can be as fastidious and officious as they like.

There's no escape for you unfortunately, except you might be able to talk down the prices.

No heresay Bert, I wouldn't post to the contrary if there was any doubt. I know the rules, I've heard it from the mouths of the people who make these decisions and seen it in writing when written confirmation has been requested.

still clear as mud.. so using all genuine porsche parts for a service by a independant will void the warranty. I dont mind paying the 610 for the basic major service but the 350 on top for plugs and brake fluid !!?!

You may be surprised how much some OPCs will discount when you mention going to another one. I realise your ability to do this depends on your location and inclination, but it could be worth trying.

This is taken from the latest Porsche extended warranty terms

Section 2c, is the valid bit here. But, when I spoke to an OPC last week about the terms, they clearly told me I could get the car serviced where I wanted.

Is this going to be the next "mis-selling" scandal after PPI smile

Wasn't meaning to be insulting Tom, but there is a clear contradiction between the terms (as posted up there) and what some dodgy bloke told you (paraphrasing for effect there, you understand).

Is there any written evidence that the contract terms have been varied for people? It's quite a big change, so you'd expect them to be communicated.
