The hand book says Hill Start Assist is fitted but it doesn't work, must be a typo?

Can't see how it can on a manual box. Must have been an update made for the V12VS smile

I find it has so much torque, the engine could be off and it would still pull. No need for hill start IMO

surely on a conventional 3 pedal car, hillstart is more about handbrake than gearbox ? i.e. an electronic handbrake

I'd confirm that in 1st gear in V12V, you can take your foot off all the pedals and the car will trundle along on the flat at a little over 5 mph all day long......

Manual or electronic handbrake?

I can concur with the Z4M having hill assist with a manual box and conventional handbrake.

I also have a Smart for 2 in the fleet and it too is blessed with hill assist as its wee centrifugal clutch is fairly feeble.

Hill assist is one thing that Pa B and I agree the V12V would benefit from especially with the handbrake and gearstick requiring different hands. Funnily enough, despite that gimp Clarkson's protestations, the Vanquish is a joy for hill starts as the paddles make life so much simpler.

From 12.25 MY manual transmission V8V has hill start assist, the V12 does not.

I thought "Hill Start Assist" didn't involve the handbrake mechanism or usage. The cars I've driven (can't remember what they were now) you simply stop on a hill with the foot brake, when you release the foot brake it keeps the brakes applied (unsure if the brake lights are still illuminated at this point) until you hit clutch biting point or 3 seconds pass, whichever is first.

My first M3 had it: you pressed the foootbrake hard and it would hold the car for a couple of seconds. It wasn't that great and I ended up using the handbrake, as I do in manual Astons.

Had it on 5 series I had with a manual handbrake
Seemed to be a 5 second delay on the handbrake coming maybe some sort of tilt mechanism
A bit too modern for Aston wink
Works well on ASM2

Have hill start assist on manual A6. Handbrake is electronic though.

that's how it works on V8S with ASM2 - was never sure how much of that was to do with the brake and how much the gearbox

So where are we now? The V12V manual says it has hill start assist, so how does it operate? If I take my foot off the brake pedal it rolls backwards frown

Surely in the sunshine with those Corsa's this is irrelevant as the car will just stick to the road thumbup Now if you are using P Zeros this may be a god send

As I stated earlier, V8V has it V12V does not, I know because I have had both cars. On a V8 the brakes stay on for a few seconds or until you let out the clutch. I did find it rather useful as the handbrake is a bit akward for me on the right hand side. The V12 did not get a few of the recent V8 upgrades e.g. they still use the old type tyre pressure monitoring system, where the V8 has the new self learning sensors.

Then it should be struck from the V12V manual smile
