I bought myself a flash - this one - http://direct.asda.com/Bubba-Large-Tumbler---700ml...

So that I could take my drinks to work (smoothies) in particular I need something leak proof so I can drive around with it.

The flask has a very tight seal and it keeps drinks cold/hot for over 4 hours each.

I only noticed when I put my first drink into it that it has a bloody hole at the top - there is a part of the lid that opens up to let you take a sip - the hole is on the hinge - so it leaks if you turn it upside down.

Obviously the hole is there by design and I would have thought it was counter productive as it would let cold air in and make the drink colder (when trying to keep it warm).

Anyway, I am thinking of taking it back to the shop but before I do, is it reasonable for me to have expected it to be watertight and does anyone know why it would have a hole?

£4.50 aint the end of the world but i have no use for it now.

It's sold as a tumbler, not a flask which is an important distinction. It's described as 'spill proof' which is some way short of 'watertight'. Perhaps it's poorly designed but technically it doesn't look like there's much of a claim there - however big shops generally don't argue if you take things back anyway.

The hole is there so that you can actually drink out of it - basic physics says that if you take stuff out, then you need to replace it with something else so in this case the liquid the comes out of the main hole is replaced with air through the other one.

The drink will be difficult to drink without the added hole. This lets air back into the container.
Even take away Mcdonalds, costa etc cups have that hole.

I'll find some other use for it.

Knew I should have bought the flask but i didn't want to have to open 2 lids and it was quite a bit chunkier
