Hi has anyone the answer to this one; in the middle of the front wheel discs (DBS) a few nuts have gone rusty along with a few of the special clips that I presume hold the ceramic discis in place?

I have tasked AM dealership to replace the nuts but I think they are coming up with a blank from Gaydon technical dept? has anyone replaced the nuts (if so who does it) or can this be claimed on the top level of extended warranty that I have in place? (09 DBS)

I've heard of one person having the whole set-up replaced by a dealer under the extended warranty at a cost of c£12k. I've heard others who have successfully managed to simply change the bolts (as all they do is hold the disc to the bell). Don't have details of either however, albeit I assume an AM garage would be able to sort for you.

My personal opinion is that brakes rust no matter what car you have (i've seen it on 300k cars!) so wouldn't worry about it. If AM can't fix it then use some brake paint to touch them up and be done with it.

No rusty nuts here. Presumably you could easily change them yourself, but they need to weigh the same so as not to affect balance.

Has traffic road film remover been used on the wheels or bodywork at some point? This is not supposed to be used on carbon brakes??

Don't look at your bolts that retain the rear anti-roll bar. They rust as well.

Perhaps we should not expect showroom condition.

Its a good point by the factory. After the nightmare they had a few years back with wheel vibration on the early DBS' they really wouldn't want to upset the owners again.

Yup, was a total ball ache (the problem was dismissed by the factory for bloody ages. Only the persistence of a few made them do anything about it rolleyes).

Yep, wasn't Aston's finest hour. From memory, one of the owners had to get lawyers involved which led to Aston banning him from ever buying another car from them. Only for them then to admit to having found the problem and fixing it.

Agree.

Does anyone know of a source for small quantity stainless steel replacement bolts, to fit the rear anti-roll bar mountings?

Look, this is not rocket science, it's just a bolted joint.

Remove an offending nut, weigh it precisely, and then go to a local well-stocked hardware store to see if you can find a suitable replacement. As long as it looks the same and is of the same material your are good..just check to see if the weight is close to the original.

Option 2, get a hold of a Brembo distributor and see if they will supply you with a batch of nuts. Ask about the torque spec.

Option 3, check on line sources of specialty hardware for the automotive and/or aerospace industries to find the exact same nuts.

Bottom line, if this bothers you, then I wouldn't let Aston's answer stop me.

You will find them on ebay. For small numbers it may stack up.

Apologies, just re-read the original thread, had forgotten you were one of the owners with the issue!

No problem. smile

Although thinking about it did bring back memories of numerous trips to the dealership, demonstrating the very obvious problem to the technician only to be assured that there was nothing wrong. rolleyes

The final straw was eventually obtaining a copy of the AM TSB which detailed a fix to the previously imaginary problem.

There was a certain satisfaction in pointing the dealership in the direction of that piece of paper though.
