Hi All,

Just wanting to conduct a bit of a straw pole, nothing earth shatteringly scientific

basically, I have contacted a reputable local garage to me that has a rolling road set up and asked how much to fit a pair of stage 1 cylinder heads, a kent cam, new cam chain and tappets and then tune the car up once complete. I will be supplying all parts other than gaskets. The chap on the end of the phone was very knowledgeable , honest and knew his stuff about rover 3.5 v8's and the flapper system for fuelling which was all great.

He estimated approx. 16 hours work for this and a ball park figure of a £1000

Is this seem like the going market rate from other's experience. ?

Many Thanks

Jeremy

If the guy is pukka and knows the RV8, guarantees his work then that sounds like a bargain to me especially if it includes dyno set-up yes

£62.50 an hour which is the norm for pukka work plus the dyno which could cost another £70 - £90 so it's in the ball park as I said you need him to guarantee the price, time to complete and the dyno work etc. if you want Fred in shed then ......!!

I don't want to throw a spanner in the works but I thought that only Mark Adams had the right equipment to tune a modified engine if it had the flapper system. From the sound of the mods you are doing I don't think anyone other than Mark Adams would be able to get the mixture right throughout the rev range, or am I wrong about this?

It does sound very reasonable - I had it in my mind that just for a cam swap (with tappets) is around £700. I assume that he will be doing things like checking and adjusting the tappet pre-load as well? Is the company known in TVR circles as well? Can you name them?
On second thoughts, you're supplying the heads already built up - so assuming 1 day for the mechanical stuff, 1 day for tuning seems a bit much if he really knows what he's doing, as there's a fairly limited ability to adjust the fuelling.
