They say don't put your foot down if the wheel is anything other than straight ahead. Think I just found out why. By spinning round a very surprised Ford Transit and dumping my Chim ever so slightly in a hedge.
Luckily the speeds involved were quite low, and other than some weeds in the wheel rim I don't think there's any damage. Front suspension will need inspecting, as there was a small kerb involved.
Hopefully this act of public shame will burn the event into my memory and I won't be tempted to repeat the experience.
That advanced driving course sounds like a good idea too.

I used to do the same 200 mile journey every other week. There was one particular bend where I started to increase my speed by 5 mph each week. Eventually the obvious happened. I can still remember how surprised I was when suddenly the view through the windscreen changed from road to tree to bush to sky to tree to bush to sky to road to eventually looking back the way I'd just come. Amazingly I'd made no contact with anything. The next time I remembered to back off by 5 mph.
glad you and the car are pretty much ok and it wasnt a costly experience. I spun a mid engined car a few years back and trying to "get that back" with opposite lock just resulted in a massive swing in the other direction. 
I ended up with a cheap repair bill somehow and put it down to experience.
Get on that driving course, learn how to "get it back" when it starts to go and take it easy!

One of the main messages I got from my RideDrive course was that once its gone, its probably gone for good. Or at least needing more space than the average road might offer. Amongst other things he had me driving round a circle in 2nd as fast as it would go, then stamping on the gas. Wheeeeee, schreeech, tyre smoke, stop facing backwards. Not too bad if just accellerating gradually past the point of grip, then it understeers at first. Or lift off a bit, catch the resulting oversteer and try to hold that on the throttle. Lots of fun, but would hate to have to do it on the road. We had the top off, and each time we got showered with dust and grass clippings (from the slightly overgrown concrete). Loads of fun, highly recommended.
This happened to me with the wife in the car after i decided to overtake some boyracer,as i got close to his bumper i pulled out and hit the loud pedal at an angle,back end was all over the place but managed to keep it in a straight line,the wife almost shit herself.Ain`t done it again since

Much to my surprise, I was complimented on catching it and then spotting that the overtake was still a safe propersition
