Going to see something because its 'special'

Vague title, but bare with me with.

I have the opportunity to see Above and Beyond in London. They are a trance/electronic group but are playing a fairly rare full acoustic set. Ive seen the full set many times and love their music, but dont especially like acoustic covers. It takes all the energy out IMO. That said, it is a rare opportunity to see something I could imagine would be unique and special.

Have you ever been to see something you might not really like because it was unique? (Im not talking about the woman in Amsterdam who fires ping pongs from her pussy...)

Slightly different scenario, but years ago I lived in a far away land, where not that many international artists came to play in.

But then Michael Jackson was coming(not like that!) and quite a few people asked me if I was going.

Me : No.
Them : Why not, he's a legend?
Me : I don't like his music
Them : But he's a legend, you should go!

I didn't go, and don't believe in going just because it's a special thing to see. Now for something more relevent :

Years ago I went to see Sonic Youth. I love them, and hadn't seen them before. It was billed as an "experimental" gig. Oh, it'll still be good, I thought. It wasn't. It was absolute st. To this day, having been to many, many gigs, it's the only one ever that I've been to when someone shouted out "this is st" at the top of his voice during one of the many quiet parts of the gig. Oh how we laughed, because it was soo true!
