A few weeks ago, the window cleaner clobbered the bonnet of the Chim with his ladder. Ripped the cover and scuffed the paintwork fairly deeply.

When it was in for its service recently at Taylor TVR I asked them to get me a quote for fixing it and they suggested Chips Away or painting the bonnet again. While the window cleaner has said he'll pay for a repair, I don't feel it's reasonable to chuck a bill for painting the entire bonnet at him - it was an accident and I'm not about to try and sting the guy. Apparently it's only about £75 with Chips Away.

Has anyone else use Chips Away for this kind of repair? It's about 1cm on the tip of the bonnet.

I've used chips away on my chim. Couldn't tell the repair was done afterwords.

It all depends on the individual franchise. Some are good some are bad; Research one to go with.

They use a 2pac paint (ie paint stage and lacquer which is heat set). It is nearly the same as what you would find in a proper body shop.

To be honest, the chips away repair is usually cheap enough to take a punt on. You can always get the full respray done if it doesn't look good, and you won't loose much.

As previously stated how good depends on your local repairer. The colour being matched is important as well. High metal content paint e.g. Silver is harder to match for a small repair.

I have had good results in the past for small scuffs.

This.

I needed work doing to my car and was concerned about the level of experience the Chips Away guy had in my area. So when he came to quote the work i asked him about his history and just talking to the guy showed to me he knew what he was doing. Did a great job and have had him back to complete other bits and bobs.

Well my girlfriend reversed in to a skip last week .The guy turned up ,spent close to a whole day on it.He asked the girlfriend for the money ..I had a quick look ,it was terrible ,I could see the filler under the paint work ..

He got in to his van and drove away without asking for payment !

I suppose at the end of the day it comes down to the guy doing the job, regardless of who he works for.

I have about 300 stone chips on mine - do they charge £75 per visit, or per stone chip? laugh

I used Chips Away here in Pontypridd a couple of weeks ago to repair a gouge in the side of the rear wing on my Chrimaera. Great job, can`t see where it was & perfect colour match. Cost £130 plus vat
