I live on a half built estate which is very dusty during the week and my car lives outside. I normally wash my car at the weekend but after a couple of days the car is covered in a thick layer of dust which makes the car look very dirty. This has become very annoying and has now forced me to wash my car in the middle of the week too.
I can hear you all saying what's the problem, clean or dirty just drive the car. Yep I agree however I do like to have a nice clean car.
I don't want to be cleaning my car every other day, so has anyone got any advice about how to get rid of the dust from the car when its not too bad so I don't have to keep washing it every 2 minutes? Could I use a microfibre cloth, or is there a spray I can use? Obviously I don't want to start scratching the paint work.
By the way I do have an outside cover, but the dust still manages to get to my car.

A good quality wax. Then if its not been raining a leaf blower!

You need some quick detailer spray and a good quality pack of fluffy microfibre cloths... works a treat smile

Obvious thing to suggest is to get an outdoor cover.

Also, use snow foam to lift the dust before washing. Absolutely do not use a spray and cloths to wipe off the dust. You'll scratch the clearcoat!

If its just surface dust then a garden blower should sort it. I wouldn't touch the car with anything other than water if the dust just doesn't blow away. As an aside, a garden blower is a great way to dry the car after washing to avoid scratches too.

I have the same problem in London.

Worst is if it rains, leaves the dirt stuck on pretty firm when it dries.

I have a cover, but only use it if I'm going to be away for a while, it's not that simple to get on and off, and I've very lazy.

I'm considering some of the 22ple stuff (or whatever it's called), heard good reports about it, but it seems like there's always something better on the horizon!

I've tried decent wax (some swissvax stuff) it makes the car easier to clean, but doesn't last that long.

Now you've made me feel guilty for only washing the car every other month or so smile I think I do more damage cleaning it than leaving it.

I used a "california car duster" on my black maserati previously. Its a good product,
quick and leaves no scratches. Google it as there are a few uk companies selling it.

100% agree, fantastic bit of kit. Also have a mini one for doing the interior! It's very lightly waxed so picks up dust and even leaves a bit of a shine behind. In theory the dustier it gets, the better it works, but that sounds counter-intuitive... and likely wrong smile

Before you use any cloth wipe it over the back of an old CD. If it leaves scratches on there then it will scratch your paintwork.

I did wonder whether Swiffer dusters might be a good choice for lifting light surface dust from car paintwork since you don't need to apply any pressure at all and the fibres seem to pull dust off surfaces and trap it.

Just ordered the california car duster so should have it soon. Only washed my car yesterday and looking out of my window it is covered in dust already. I did buy some Meguiars Ultimate Quik Detailer earlier today, as it states that the fine spray can be used on dusty cars etc. Not too sure if I should use it now or use it in conjunction with the car duster?

^^FYI...when new, the California Duster can leave some wax streaks. As it gets a bit dirtier, it will simply pick up the dust.
