Hi there,

Why would the ignition light stay on?

The fan / alternator belt was replaced earlier this year and is in good condition.

The battery was replaced last year.

Could it be fuse or relay related or some other sort of electrical problem?

Any thoughts much appreciate?
Cheers
Kenny

By ignition light do you mean battery light?

If yes...
When this stayed on with my car it was one of the cables that broke on the back of the alternator which charges the battery. It will slowly drain the battery till its dead, then you won't be able to start it.

Thanks for the suggestions and sorry about the confusion - yes its the battery light.

I don't think i've ever replaced the alternator - maybe its faulty.

On mine it was a cable issue. there is a weak point and sometimes its easier just to replace the wiring in the tunnel. That cured my problem, light on battery drain.

if the alternator isnt charging then the light comes on, so a failed/ing one keeps the light on... however a broken wire is often also the cause (often meaning alternators is fine but isnt charging the battery), this is common and happened on mine.

Its close to the turbo etc so heat can damage the wires and cause the issue.

Thanks for that Andy - she goes into the garage tomorrow. I'd like to try it myself but not good with electrics & need the car working this weekend.

Cheers

I had this issue, tested the wiring on the alternator and had it reconditioned still light was on... turned out to be a faulty cable inside the tunnel somewhere, had it replaced and it fixed the light. Only thing was I had to remove the dash fascia to do it.
